SEACOM FULL MARKS

Permission

Hi ,

I have emailed SEACOM to see if they have any problems with this

( They DO have their own media guys you know )

Soon as I get the word I will get a GE kmz together and then you can ALL look.

BUT - I CAN report that the cable IS still there. :)

Was in Mtunzini yesterday and went to have a look at the site and take some photos as well as capturing some GPS routing.

Waiting for permission to release.

Thanks for keeping us updated, will be following this thread.

i think service from seacom is great. i sent them an email as well and not even an hour later i received a reply with all the relevant info i wanted from a consultant.

they make telkom look like they only start walking yesterday where as seacom have already ran the comrades lol

I'm just worried that it's a good first impression and thats all. Who's to say that they're not providing all this excellent service just to get us hooked and once they're up and running they become like Telkom? Really hoping their service stays exceptional right the way through. Only time will tell.

When is the launch date? Their website states "86 days to completion". That will take them 8 days into July :confused:

When we were at the site we were told that the official provisioning of the Landing Station would be on the 16th June ( Soweto Day )

Perhaps the nation wide switch on comes a bit later

Perhaps you need to ask MTN Network Provisioning Services that one -- they will be sitting on the main splice at their new multi-million rand Data Centre in EMPANGENI (To route all those 2010 overseas cell calls ) :D

Why not contact SEACOM direct and ask them :)

Google Earth

How does one input the co-ords into Google Earth exactly?

Go to the sidebar

Look for search

Type in the co-ords -- Note DECIMAL DEGREES ( you may need to put a minus sign in front of the Southerly reading ) also make sure that in the "Options" you have decimal degrees set.

Click on search and GE should put the crosshair right on ground zero.

Otherwise just zoom in to KZN -- go north along the beach from DURBAN -- just before Richards Bay look for MTUNZINI.

Find Mtunzini STATION and you should be pretty close. Note -- your pointer will show the co-ords in the status bar.

Compare what you see in GE with the photos on the SEACOM website

IF anyone wants to look it up on GE here are the co-ords

28.959811200°S

31.758400000°E

51.610 m (HAE)

Copy & Paste the bold straight into the search bar will also work.

I've sent them an email re the 86 days. Will post the response once received.

I wonder how old the Google maps for Mtunzini are....2-3 years?...you probably won't see much, just sand dunes :)

The landing station is being built next to the shed next to the railway line.

HAVE you actually had a look

Then WHY post such rubbish :(

You DO see a LOT more than just "Sand-Dunes"

You will not see the actual NEW building but you see pretty much everything else.

Enough to see where it is , how it connects , and how everything fits together

I wonder if you even have GE installed ????

ummm,,,will we be able to change from telkom to neotel when they launch the cable?. i live in the middle suburbs of durban, and i did'nt see anyone laying cables in my area yet, and i'm not sure about the wireless internet.

and also i heard that telkom has bought some of this seacom cable, is this true?

This is a lively chap isn't he?

I have read two threads which seemed hard to believe... and then I saw both have the same op.

the BULLSH*TTING one

What id like to know is, when the seacom project is complete in june-july, will the whole of south africa be able to get there service? Is the infustructure ready, i mean are we ready with fibre optic cables or is only Johannesburg ready?
I have just moved to South Africa and i live in East london in the eastern cape. This whole internet story down here is so confusing!! At the moment im using the huwai modem and connecting 3g, does anyone know if the seacom project will benefit me at all as soon as it is completed.
thank you
