SEACOM international bandwidth savior found: TENET!

Well done TENET for coming to the rescue of ISPs! Great to see this proactive approach to solving SA's international bandwidth woes.

As stated, its intermittent, hopefully it will clear again, we've been going up and down, but the restoration capacity will kick in the moment the lambda comes back up, we just have to pray it comes back up and wait and see how long it stays up :)

Its kind of hit and miss at the moment, but its the best we can do right now
 
It is understood that Telkom/SAIX is concerned about the amount of bandwidth which uncapped ADSL users consume. It is therefore likely that service providers like MWEB and Internet Solutions are the most affected by the lack of SAIX capacity.

So Telkom is saying that their SAT3 is oversubscribed? :wtf:
 
TENET is the univeristy or academic network in South Africa. There international is via SEACOM but seems to be almost unaffected. They have a huge amount of bandwith so clearly the repeater is not affecting all circuits
 
I thought EASSY cable was due to go live end of June? Can't they help?
 
Andrew Alston should be made ceo of Telkom. South africa would be a better place.

Tracert indicates that MWeb is now routing via JINX and TENET, rather than SEACOM directly. Very interesting...

It's Up & running, i can download again @ MAX speed.....Mweb 4 MB/s Uncapped , the best 4 now...

Varsities are on holiday, so they are gaining some lekker points here without sacrificing too much. The gesture is appreciated all the same!

Well, if this is true, why is it still so damned slow? No pictures in Facebook, not able to download software, UK-based pages don't load, ad nauseam! Why doesn't this problem ever happen in the NORTHERN hemisphere? Ghad, we are so sick and tired of this crap!

Simple. http://www.telecomramblings.com/network-maps/transatlantic/ - a list of operators (not cables) across the Atlantic. At least one operator runs more than one cable. North America can connect overland, as can Europe & Asia. Lots of redundant routes.
