Do u guys think with the present state of our absurd latency and internet problems that Seacom is really going to make a diffrence for us now or is it like they say going to take ages and ages? Cause I can imagine just as I am sick of 600-700ms latency issues and Telkom u guys are 2.

Tbh don't think we will get WoW love from Seacom soon. If we do it would be awesome and I would be the 1st to write someone a letter and say thanks. But sadly things have not very oftened went the way of the consumer

My grievance is that we pay so much for internet my cost is R660 4mbps line unshaped and latency is just getting worse every week had 250-350ms 4 months ago now last night sitting on 650-750ms and its doesnt look like any of the ISP'S or SAIX or IS give even half a damn about anything hence y I hoped that Seacom would at least help us WOW players a bit in the latency department but I think its just wishful thinking to be honest

Im pretty sure there far more important matters out there for Seacom to worry about then your latency on a game server.

i have too agree with zakna. I pay the same money and even more that the guy checking his email and reading news24 or what ever the hell normal internet users do.

a lot of internet users use about 10MB/s per minute on youtube videos - that's more than WoW uses.

Be that as it may my question to WOW users what they think will we c a significant change to latency now that Seacom is online or will we have to wait ages for anything to happen

I'm going with "wait ages for anything to happen" the first real tests/signs we will see of the benefit in latency with Seacom is when one of the ISP's actually starts selling Seacom based accounts.

Just as I suspected so all this waiting for Seacom to go live just means we have to wait more kind of ironic isnt it

Like my other post, how exactly is latency going to change? SAT3 uses fibre. Seacom uses fibre. They both travel at the speed of light and you are sitting on the opposite side of the planet to your EU game server. You will only see a difference in time it takes to route from the landing site to your server, and quite frankly, that is where your lag is coming from.

Look at the stats they posted yesterday, 60 to 70ms one way from Seacom here till endpoint, double that because you need your data to get back here. At a minimum you have 150ms latency. Take that away and you end up with the 100 or so that people in the EU get.

While it inherently true that there is a minimum amount of latency to be expected due to our distance from the EU servers I still think there should be some benefit with the landing of the new cable. My simple premise for this is that instead of the entire country fighting over the bandwidth on a single outgoing line, this can now be shared accross two lines thus a reduction in the overall contention ratio on our outgoing lines.

We still the exact same distance from the WoW servers that we were before. The cable isnt pulling us towards Europe so the distance the packets have to go is shortened.

Incidently the only games i play are online, and yes whilst i would LOVE to have a 10ms to international servers its not going to happen.

True Corgon but we not asking for 10ms we asking for under 450ms at least or 500ms just so the game is playable

Guys guys, what are you talking about? How in the hell is Seacom going to improve latency? All Seacom is going to do is provide cheaper broadband prices.
That's it!If your working under the assumption that the Sat3 cable was congested and the Seacom cable will relieve some of the workload from SAT3 then you are also wrong.

Sat 3 has never ever even been close to its maximum capacity, as proven by the latest claims by Telkom that "all of a sudden" there is more bandwidth available by some bullshlt excuse about "Fiber Upgrades".
Telkom has just been raping us with high internet costs all the while SAT3 has never even smelled maximum capacity throughput.

So your all sadly mistaken if yo think your latency will get better.Your latency to Europe and America will always be 350+, the fact that WoW has 600 + is purely some WoW problem.Every other game I've ever played to Euro has been 350-400 ms latency.

mmmmm dont entirely agree I have seen latency way lower than 250 dont ask me how my friend in JHB gets 150ms but the thing about telkom just proves what we all knew bunch of ***** bastards

Yip, I'm on 4MB unshaped and I get 200ms - 220ms to Twilight's Hammer EU, 300ms if I'm raiding Ulduar 25 man or running around Dalaran, and I am in PTA.

I think most of the latency most people are experiencing is due to the quality of the lines between your home and the SAT3 cable.
