Seacom Live Today

Like my other post, how exactly is latency going to change? SAT3 uses fibre. Seacom uses fibre. They both travel at the speed of light and you are sitting on the opposite side of the planet to your EU game server. You will only see a difference in time it takes to route from the landing site to your server, and quite frankly, that is where your lag is coming from.

Look at the stats they posted yesterday, 60 to 70ms one way from Seacom here till endpoint, double that because you need your data to get back here. At a minimum you have 150ms latency. Take that away and you end up with the 100 or so that people in the EU get.

Latency is determined on hops, if seacom route there traffic efficiently you can see latency's in the 100's. And if seacom routed nicely into telasorna then it would be cool:)

Guys guys, what are you talking about? How in the hell is Seacom going to improve latency? All Seacom is going to do is provide cheaper broadband prices.
That's it!If your working under the assumption that the Sat3 cable was congested and the Seacom cable will relieve some of the workload from SAT3 then you are also wrong.

Sat 3 has never ever even been close to its maximum capacity, as proven by the latest claims by Telkom that "all of a sudden" there is more bandwidth available by some bullshlt excuse about "Fiber Upgrades".
Telkom has just been raping us with high internet costs all the while SAT3 has never even smelled maximum capacity throughput.

So your all sadly mistaken if yo think your latency will get better.Your latency to Europe and America will always be 350+, the fact that WoW has 600 + is purely some WoW problem.Every other game I've ever played to Euro has been 350-400 ms latency.

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about, the problem is not wow the problem is the ISP blizzard are using. Telia, Telasorna(sp). Like i have stated if seacom have different routing than sat3 has, there will be large reductions in latency. SAT3 has like over 14 hops to the destination network which is just stupid.

And my latency to Germany(ravenholdt), is 210-300.

Thou you are correct with the workload, and congestion

While more hops usually mean more latency, its far less than what the actual distance of the cable adds to it or the shaping and congestion on our adsl networks for that matter...

I tested out my pings last night and im no expert, so maybe it is something to do with where the servers are located.

My horde server Ahn Qiraj i sit between 200-500 ping. However when i log into Trollbane i get pings of between 800-1200. What is the reasoning for this?

+1

Also the SAT3 cable is not a "broadband" cable. Speed and latency to all places in Europe will have a huge Latency drop. The SEACOM cable is capable of handling more traffic more quickly = Better latency and higer Speeds :)

But, not all ISP's is connected to the SEACOM cable afaik. There is only a few that would show a benefit in the next few days.

I'm running both AXXESS uncapped fibre as well as WA Unshapred prepaid.

Last night, using Gamemax, I got between 250-400 to Executus EU using the AXXESS uncapped package..

This has been after days of 1000+ latency on the same setup. I would say that things have improved...

How can you see latency in the 100's when it physically takes 150ms for the jump from Africa to EU and back using undersea fibre? This has nothing to do with congestion, this is the physical speed of the medium. You still have to get to the undersea cable, and you still need to route to the gaming server from there.

Lets put this in perspective, what latency do they get in the UK and EU? 1. 5. 10? No, it ranges from around 50 to 100. They go through the same infrastructure that we need to go through, some even less. How are we going to skip that PLUS the latency of the undersea?

lol, Axxess aren't on Seacom yet.

No, but IS is in the process of moving traffic over.

Oh, and btw, AXXESS resells IS bandwidth. AXXESS have a notice up under the control panel saying that this is in progress.

My latency improved yesterday, that is my point.

Our latency isn't that bad. I played WoW whilst living in Oxford City, on a 10mb line and on average the latency hung around 80 - 200ms. On bad days it hovered around 800 thats when you'd feel the pinch.

latency

I think what mos people are trying to say is that the latency in WOW last night was good.

It was the 1st evening in weeks that I did not DC on every boss fight in Uldar 25.

I have no idea what made the difference as to if it's a question of the new cable connecting or if Telia/Telkom fixed something that was broken.

My point is just that last night i could play in peace and not be overly worried about dc'ing everytime we start a fight on a boss.

I also think what most people should be aware of is that playing WOW with a 400-500 (ingame) latency is not bad, it playes well.

The problem is when you loose ingame packets, if this happens you will dc and "lag" as the server needs to resend data to you or that data is "lost".

This is when WOW becomes unplayable.

You need a clean stable connection, it does not need to be super quick to play the PVE game in a decent way. PVP is a bit of a pain thou.

my 2c

I haven't had an issue with latency for a long time using WebAfrica unshaped, and I do 25 man Ulduar farming at least 4 nights a week. So you probably just had a bad route to your server.

Web Africa uses SAIX, AXXESS Uncapped uses IS - that was the issue.

I have both accounts, but I would rather use my Uncapped account to game on if possible instead of using expensive unshaped SAIX accounts.

This weekend, my latency on IS based AXXESS accounts have been, impressive ;)

what do you classify as not bad pings?

And regarding your previous post, i have friends in europe (UK) that get 30-45ms :) they say they are lagging when it go's over 100.

The best i ever had using gamemax was 120-190, but then it detoriated.

and by 100's i meant exactly that 100's, 100-199:)

What server does your friends in the UK play to? Remember the data centers are spread throughout so they might just have a good route to them. I never said that you cannot get 5ms latency to the game, but that you will never be able to get sub 160ms latency in South Africa as that is the time on the fibre alone. Realistically you will be always getting 200+ unless they develop some form of data transmission that is faster than the speed of light.

Yep. I played in UK for a few years, on an average day latency sits on 60 - 100MS. Bad days usually around 600 - 800 but usually not for too long.

Still getting lag spikes and disconnects on fights like Yogg-Saron 25. All I can say is my guild is getting pissed off with me and I just have to wait until Axxess start doing unshaped on my semi-shaped account :P

Just buy a Axxess 626 1 Gb prepaid account for R55. Surely you can afford that if 25 man raiding is important to you
