Seagate 2TB drive

I doubt they will let you replace it over a clicking sound except under rate circumstances. Also Seagate itself will probably be more likely to replace it than whoever you purchased it from, they'll likely just run something like the Seatools tests on it and unless they gives serious errors they'll just send it back to you.

check SMART and post here. First step. Backup your data. Then perform surface scan and post statistics of delays. It should be sticky thread to explain how to do it and how to interpret results.

How do I check if its still under warranty?
Bloody clicking sound - ffs I hate hard drives

Write down the serial number on it and call a few suppliers if you don't know which one you got it from. They should be able to tell you if it's under warranty or not.

It fails on the fist test - DST - Drive Short Test
It does not even run, just fails.
I am running it USB in external drive
On the others except advanced it passes.
Any idea?

Warranty says it does not pick it up:

Phone Rectron and give them the serial no. If it's under warranty and it was imported by them, they will replace it free of charge. If it was supplied by someone else they will replace it for a fee

Afaik warranty is 5 years on Seagates. I have an external 1Tb that has had the same issue from the get go. I should really back it up and send it in.

Edit - ok it is under warranty until 2013 September.
Where would I take this to be swapped out?
What is the procedure?
Seagate want me to ship it to them, surely they have agents here?

No ways. Consumer level drives have a 1 year warranty (it was lowered from 3, to 2, to 1, just recently). Enterprise are up to 5 years. There are still a few consumer drives floating around with 2yr warranty.

Mine was bought from First Technology three years ago and the warranty is 5 years.
It's possible it's changed recently, but it's possible the OP is still under warranty.

afaik only on the XT ones and the SV35's normal ones back then were 3 years, now they are 1 year.

Yeah if you bought a Seagate 2, 3 years ago and it has a 5 year warranty it still has a 5 year warranty, if you buy one now they have 1 year warranties except if you buy a XT or a sv35 which now have a 3 year warranty.

I was talking about current internal drives. Warranty has been going down since 2 years ago. :(

Howcome those links offer 5 years then? They seem current.
