I recently found out I have one of those Seagates with the faulty firmware so

I downloaded the new firmware (I have the 500 gig one btw), Just wondering how safe is the firmware update. Dont want to stuff my drive up. With thatm dont want it dying on me later on

What should I do?

How do I find out if I have one of those faulty hdd's? Except for waiting for it to go a-wall :D

Does anybody know what the correct firmware for the ST3500320AS is? I bought the drives last month and they have the SD1A firmware. Is this the correct firmware or do I still have to upgrade the drives?

I have the same drive, also downloaded the same firmware update but not sure if its the correct one. I saw a thread (the name escapes me) where some guy said the update screwed up his drive permanently(ST3500320AS).

Just dont reboot while its doing its thing and follow all the prompts and you should be fine, i updated mine in less then 2 minutes.
