This is a SATA2 drive, and I have a motherboard that only supports SATA.. Gigabyte 915P-DUO. Would a SATA2 drive just work backwards in a SATA1 envirmoment?

I think it will. I have 3 of them in my pc. And im pretty sure i only have sata 1.

Yes the Seagates have a jumper. Leave jumper on and it works at SATA 150. Take jumper off and it's SATA 300.

its actually supposed automatically switch over to SATA 150 without needing the jumper, it's just with some chipsets (via's in perticular) that you need to use the jumper to force it to SATA 150.

The jumper starts on 150 with these drives.

Also check computersonly.co.za for a price comparison, they had these for R899 last time I checked.

Wow they've got the 16mb version for R799.

Yes, there is no SATA standard called SATA2. It is SATA150 and SATA300. I see even the distributors (Pinnacle) are referring to the drives as SATA2...
