Hey all,

I lent my friend my 250gig Seagate FreeAgent External Drive (he had to backup and reformat his pc) and got it back today, plug it in and it doesnt turn on after a while it turned on and ran fine, then took it home with me and plugged it in, same thing, left it for a while but it didn't turn on this time. Could it be the power is blown on it or maybe the hard drive?

Thanx in advance

Is it the prepackaged external? Factory fitted in other words?

I had to help somebody a while ago and it turned out that the hdd motor was burnt out...

Ya it is prepackaged, shortly after i tried pluggin in another power adapter where you can set the output and it turned on fine so i think it mite just be the the power adapter that came with the HDD, is it possible to fry that?

Im buying the 500gb version of the freeagent soon.

Tell me is it possible to remove the HDD from the bracket or is it a sealed unit?

Not too sure but its the easily the size of a normal HDD so I'd prob agree with antowan

There are 2 type, the IDE and the FreeAgent.
The FreeAgent is a 2.5" drive that is powered purley by your USB Port and is fixed.
The IDE type is a 3.5" drive which fits in bracket and can be removed and swopped etc and uses an external Power Supply.
I have a 80 gig FreeAgent and I noticed once the drive has been used a lot, its access time somewhat slows down.

Does anyone know where I can contact a local Seagate supplier or some place I can get the power adapter replaced?

I know this is an old post, but I have a question. Has anyone here ever cracked open a Freeagent Desktop 3.5" enclosure? I wanna upgrade, but don't wanna for out more for a fw800 enclosure...

Does anyone have a contact number for Seagate?
Is a faulty power supply covered under the warranty?
What is the cost of a new power supply?
Is it possible to break the casing and use an external enclosure?

I own a 500GB FreeAgent.

all i can remember is that they are in Linbro Park (No NOT Drive Control) they have another name

Not sure, but you could try phoning Ingram Micro, they are the official-official distributors and handle warranties etc. ;)
