Hi

My Seagate backup external device is no longer functional and cannot be detected by my Mac, despite trying various methods to resolve the issue. Are there any other remedies available, or do you know of anyone who can repair external drives, even if it's just to retrieve data? I appreciate any assistance.

Thanks so much.

If it is a hardware failure, then it you will need to send it to a data recovery company

Some things you might be able to do
  • Plug it into another Mac. That establishes if it is the HDD itself. If the HDD works, it is your Mac
  • Try another port if you don't have another Mac. It might be the port. Also try another cable.
  • Check under Disk Utility if the HDD is detected. If it is not there, it might be either the port you are using is broken or the HDD controller is not working anymore
  • If it is detected in Disk Utility and not mounting, you have two options
    • Use a data recovery software. If it is the File system error, it might be able to recover it
    • If that doesn't work, it is big possibility a hardware failure and you will need to send it to a recovery company

Hey folks so I have 2 Seagate hard drives that functions admirably, yet when I updated my macintosh to macos sierra, it just out of nowhere wont read it. My macintosh is MacBook 2015.

Are you using NTFS for mac from Paragon?

If yes, then uninstall and get the new version.

The last security update from Apple broke it.
