How to get an external Seagate Backup Plus HDD spin down?

I have an external USB3 Seagate Backup Plus 8TB Archive HD (this one) that I use on a Raspberry Pi with Kodi. (Yes, I know.) Works great, except that the Samsung won't spin down after a period of inactivity. It's on all the time.

I tried hdparm -B /dev/sdb and hdparm -S 120 /dev/sdb (wherein /dev/sdb is the device file for this harddrive) but both commands return the following: SG_IO: bad/missing sense data, sb[]: 70 00 05 00 00 00 00 0a 00 00 00 00 24 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

Just to make sure I'm not wasting time here: does that mean this disk simply does not support any power management and I just have to live with the HD being on 24/7, or is there another way to tell it to spin down after 10 minutes or so of activity?

What does sudo hdparm -I /dev/sdb output say?

Does the idle3ctl command work on your drive?

Also try sdparm command.

The idle3ctl and hdparm commands don't seem to be supported. However, your link to the rpi forum contained a comment about hd-idle, which I hadn't seen yet. This works, so essentially my problem is sorted regardless of the above.
