Japanese rescuers on Monday expanded the search for a seven-year-old boy missing for three days after his parents left him in a mountain forest inhabited by bears as punishment in a case that has infuriated public opinion.

The parents originally told police the boy got lost on Saturday while they were hiking to gather wild vegetables but later admitted they had left him in the forest to punish him.

The boy, Yamato Tanooka, went missing in mountains on the northern main island of Hokkaido inhabited by wild bears.

Yamato, his older sister, mother and father came to a park near the forest on Saturday, but the parents became angry as the boy threw stones at cars and people, Japanese police and media reports said.

They unintentionally taught themselves a lesson. He is now throwing stones at bears. Horrible parenting.
 
Christ, that's horrible. Not only does the child have to survive exposure and starvation, but bears too. Hope they find him soon
 
The boy was throwing stones at cars and people. His parents were most likely very angry with him. This is Japan not SouthAfrica people. Throwing stones is very taboo over there.

He probably got himself lost to spite his family.

Sounds like a real piece of work.

In Africa the parents would be proud of the kid ..... good training for negotiation skills required at Uni or as a worker during wage negotiations .....
 
Still no sign of the kid. Anyone else think this whole thing sounds a bit off? the parents have already changed their story once... hope the authorities are looking at this from all angles.
