Anyone seen the video "Searching for Suger Man" ?

I caught it on Netflix or Amazon Video(cant recall which...too much wine :D )

Its the story about a couple of South Africans tracked down muso Rodriguez. Its an amazing story.

I never released that he wasn't big in the US at all.

My sister had his records but they got lost years ago. I ended up buying both his records off iTunes. lol.

Oh good lord... Welcome from under the rock you just crawled out of zippy.
I guess you missed all the excitement here in SA when it won an Oscar?
Being in UK, I guess you missed all the sold out concerts he had here too.
Did you know Rodrigues' daughter married the guy (a South African) who was hired to do security for him here at his concerts?
Malik Bendjelloul, the director and producer of the film committed suicide just last month...

There, now you know!

lol. Yes.

I saw the video. I recall his popularity in SA, but I had no idea was completely unheard of outside of SA until I saw this video.

That he was unheard of outside of SA is a bit of a myth I believe.

Yeah. It's a nice story for a doccie-movie, but basically bullschit. He toured Australia a few times, and had a following in some European countries.

Read up about it. There are quite a few websites that have the real story.

I seem to recall his daughter married a South African.

True, more really to do with the fact that he wasn't popular in the US and that he never knew about how popular he was in SA. Also the controversy about what happened to the royalties from the sales of records in SA.
