Seatbelt repairs - who does it?

Hi all,

So driving the wife's car today and we found that the passenger side seatbelt is jammed. Feels like the roller mechanism in the pillar is stuck and no amount of tugging etc does anything. I've seen some videos but I don't have the tools or the time to look at it. Does anyone know who or what franchise I can take the car to,to have it looked at? Durban/Pinetown based.

It's a Hyundai i20 and I obviously want to avoid the dealerships. Will try my mechanic but it's not really a mechanical fault?
 
I take it the car is out of warranty?

Sometimes the 'ruk-stop' action activates, especially when the car is parked at a angle. Setting the belt for a shorter person (lower down on the pillar) will release the lock.

Chances are it will work after you've taken the car for a short drive.

http://www.airbagrenewden.co.za/ I have no experience with them, I saw their van on the highway the other day and took their details down to fix the seatbelt in my classic beetle, I ended up fixing it myself but these guys do airbags and seatbelts specially.
 
Whats annoying is that it's a six year old car. I've had a couple of second hands, one 20 years old at the time and didn't have this type of malfunction.

Oh and it's a wife runaround, 72k on the clock only.

I had the same thing happen to my i20 2 months after driving it off the showroom floor...
Luckily didn't have to pay to have it fixed and the dealership replaced the entire seatbelt+mechanism to be safe.

Should be a very simple fix. Go to a scrapyard and get the same car's seat belt. Unscrew the old belt and add the new one. I'm sure someone in your area has a torque wrench. I have one in Pretoria if you need one. But I'm sure a mate or someone would have one. It's an easy job, anyone should be able to do it. I do however think the screws on the belt will be those star shaped spline thingies. You can buy it at any spare shop. About R 200 a set.
 
Hmmm ok now apparently I'm being told that the seatbelt mechanism is linked to the airbag. Anyone know how true this is? I know one can disable the airbag via a keyslot although I think that's just the frontal one, not sure about side.

Lol, we did phone them for the part as a comparison, R6.5k. So I spoke to two chaps regarding airbags and the one told me it won't do anything if you disconnect the terminals ( main battery and unplug airbag ) and swap it out, the other will charge me R650 for a repair so going to give that a go. If it doesn't work then I'll go scrap hunting and do it myself, ridiculous prices. Hell I'll even bolt a separate seat belt on the side of the freaking chassis.
 
But I'm wondering if you even use the seatbelt, cos it would be ironic if you don't. Lol
