Second-hand Tesla price shock in South Africa

Buying a second-hand Tesla in South Africa is unwise as the few models listed for sale are overpriced, a MyBroadband analysis has revealed.

Autotrader currently has two Teslas — a 2021 Model 3 Standard and a 2023 Model Y Performance — listed on its platform, priced at R1.80 million and R1.99 million, respectively.

South Africa's car dealers totally rip the public off. And no its not just import duties. I know Honda tends to have a 50% markup at least on their old cars.

In 2010 I sold a Honda Jazz for 80k, with 30k on the clock. Today I saw the similar jazz for R90k with 200k on the clock, same year model. I was floored.

Here is an Example. $1 Australia is R11.97. So the Honda CRV starts at this price in Australia. Same car, from same factory we buy it from. R590k rand wise in Australia. Here you will spend R1 million plus for the CR-V. But they pay about 15% duty, we pay 34%, so if we adjust it, we should spend R702k for the new CRV

Alas Honda SA wants us to pay them over a whopping R300k more per car. Probs why they dont sell well in SA.

And thats why I bought a demo Mercedes GLB, much better. Oh be careful the rear windows on the CR-V. They dont stop closing when pressure is applied. They will slice a banana in half, or serious damage to a kid's fingers.

Inflation in this shithole is outpacing car depreciation.

Honestly its a bit our salespeople are greedy.

A property company bought 2x houses the other day in the area close by for R2 million a piece. They have now built 4x townhouses each on the same plots and sell them for R6 million each. This will push up prices drastically in the area also.

So pay R4 million and sell them for R36 million in the process. Its becoming a trend. Since them I am being called by another agency, Pam Golding on a weekly basis to sell my house.
