i have an existing 2gb contract with vodacom that i use with a wifi modem. it needs to stay in an office though.

can vodacom give me a second sim (nano for ipad mini) which accesses the same data on my existing contract?

i can't see why not. anyone done this?

Vodacom can do this, I have 3 sims linked to the same databundel. just ask them for a sim and then to link it to an existing sim. They won't be able to link a prepaid sim.

i just went to vodacom and left very unhappy.

lady helping me was friendly and went to get a nano sim and called up my contract. when she saw my 24 month data contract was listed as "Top Up" and not "open line" she informed me that we could no longer create a second sim for me. apparently when i opened the contract i chose the wrong option. i remember the day clearly and the way it was explained to me was as follows: "if you choose top up then the moment you reach your 2gb limit you get cut off. if you choose open line then your data keeps flowing but you pay out-of contract rates". something like that. i knew i would never go over 2gb but wanted to protect myself nonetheless (stupid auto updates etc) and didn't feel like checking balances all the time.

now, 6 months later it seems a 30 second conversation is stopping me from having another sim which accesses the data I ALREADY PAY FOR.

my only option is to now change my contract to open line (which means i'll pay R350 per month instead of R150) EVEN THOUGH AT THE TIME IT WOULD HAVE COST ME THE SAME EITHER WAY.

does anyone have any experience with this? seems like i'm being punished for no reason. the vodacom page (https://www.vodacom.co.za/personal/...roadbandonthemove/multidatasim&firstLoad=true) says the following:
Multi Data SIMs are available on 24-month data, month-to-month data, 24-month voice and month-to-month voice Contracts.

My contract is a 24 month data contract.

TopUp contract cannot do DataSIM because it is based on the pre-paid billing engine. All the other contracts are post-paid which run on a different system which currently has that functionality. I have seen mention of it being worked on for the TopUp contracts, but there are no set dates.

would one be able to change a top up contract to one of these contracts?

I believe you can migrate, but I'm not sure what the (cost) implications are. PM Ockie or speak to a Vodacom person.
