Security camera recommendations

Hi All,

I've been looking into cctv options, looking for recommendations on really good cameras.
Preferably i want a setup that notifies me when it detects a human, i'm currently not sure if i want 24/7 recording or simply when motion is triggered. I would love a wireless option, as this makes installation a lot easier but people have pointed out some of the type of flaws with wireless setups. I want at least 2K resolution as i've seen the benefits on the details they display

Currently looking a the following two cameras as front runners
TP-Link VIGI C540-W-4 4MP
eufycam 3 s330

They tick all the boxes.
They have some other Eufy cams on special.

I bought 4. 2 Solar and 2 wired.

Also have a wireless Ring doorbell which is great, but you need to pay about R800 a year to get notifications.
I may buy the Eufy one when my subscription runs out.
 

Can anyone recommend a good Wireless Security Camera?

EZVIZ H3 or C3X Darkfighter

Basically, I have two EZVIZ C3W Pro's While they work great for close wall monitoring and night quality looks good (enough) I had a recent break-in, luckily just the yard, after he smashed the weakest point of the electric fence, that's been resolved. But, I'd like to add a 3rd camera, then...

Recently got the ezviz bc1c and i'm not 100% happy with it's "intelligent human detection", so kind of worried the same will apply to the rest of their range

I have been strongly considering the eufycam 3 s330, it would be an easier decision if it wasn't R4500 a camera.
How well does their intelligent human detection work and at roughly how many meters does it work?
 
I've had numerous set-ups of CCTV over the years.

I would only do NVR and POE cameras, yes wiring is a requirement but the quality and the stability is by far better.
IMO I would never again do WIFI only and especially battery/solar WIFI cameras with a SD backup only.
Very impressed with the TP Link cameras but my current NVR being a Dahua is typical Chinese stuff. It works and well but it's not the be all and end all. It seems to me every NVR/DVR has crappy hardware/software.

I'm thinking about upgrading my folk's CCTV system. It's a 8channel "chinese"dvr coaxial cable system.
an NVR and PoE cameras would be the next best upgrade path, right?
 
Reolink cameras generally review well with excellent image quality and they're pretty affordable too. I have their doorbell camera and it's really good.
 
Poe is awesome. A bit of a pain to run all the CAT cables, but no need to bother with power connections and the quality is great.

One of my cameras stopped working after a lightning strike, I'm thinking of getting a Reolink Duo 2 to cover the road.
 
very important is to install any metal camera on a junction box to prevent any form if surge/lightening. CCTV cameras are very susceptible to power surge/lightening damage or interference specially to things like electric fencing etc.
 
Any windows or NAS based NVR software one could use instead of the chinese NVR's?

Blue Iris is one of the more popular ones for Windows.

Synology has their own NVR with their hardware.

There is also Frigate which can run on Docker, so any NAS that has Docker support can use it I guess. I've never tried it.

Why not Scrypted NVR? Since you use that already anyway?

Yes, Scrypted is also an option but the NVR part is a paid plugin (which I don't use). I wanted to include a free and open source solution which is why I mentioned Frigate and not Scrypted.

Aah right, haven’t actually tried so didn’t know it was paid for.

You’ve changed my life getting all my stuff in HomeKit.

I’ve actually got two HikVision cameras for a bargain that I still want to setup.
