Security for files and docs on Vista and Win 7

My mate is busy starting up a new bussines and asked me a few things about the security on his two laptops. 1 is running Vista (bussines version I think), using office 2007 and the other Win 7 Profesional 32bit using open office
He asked about
1: a good antivirus/internet security
2: if there is a way to properly secure is work files and docs with some sort of password protection.

I answered as follows.
1: I told him that I use Kaspersky Internet Security and I am very happy with it, he should try that. He can make use of the safe run apps. Don't even waist time using anything thats "free" off the net, they don't cover enough.

2: I have no idea what to suggest. So I thought I would ask you guys. Can anybody suggest a way for him to keep his spreadsheets or the whole file safe and secure.

For Anti-virus I would try Microsoft Security Essentials, realy works well if your OS is genuine and is free. It also auto updates dailly with your windows updates.

For a business environment, no.

As for the KIS, yeah good enough not sure about the second question unfortunately.

We will agree to disagree on this one. I have been using MSE in an business environment without ANY problems.
