Sedibeng mayor Mahole Simon Mo***eng was arrested for allegedly driving while drunk, after bumping into another car while leaving a Vanderbijlpark hotel, The Star reported on Thursday.

According to the report, Mo***eng spent Tuesday night in prison.

Gauteng police spokesman Brigadier Neville Malila confirmed that a sample of Mo***eng's blood was taken at a hospital.

"He was only released [on Wednesday] morning, on R1000 bail.

"He was released from the police station and did not have to appear in court."

The case was postponed to September 5.

Mo***eng's spokesman Dan Manoeli said that on another occasion in February, when Mo***eng fell over in a bar in Vanderbijlpark and had to be helped to his feet, it was suspected that his drink had been spiked.

Is he due for a higher ANC position as surely he qualifies now?

More like he and Johnny Walker are best friends. Lets see if this goes any further as it would had this tw@t been a non civil servant for the cANCer.

:D excuse of the day right there?

Going to try this on the wife next time around

Isn't a mayor like, a high-level public servant? Someone with some rather serious responsibilities? Someone like that should be suspended without pay for 3 months if they're caught under the influence, in addition to the normal legal process

Some fricken example this @#$! is.

Sedibeng mayor Mahole Simon Mo***eng should be fired after reportedly being arrested for alleged drunk driving, the Congress of the People said on Thursday.

Cope spokeswoman Sikelelwa Clara Sodlulashe-Motau said Mo***eng's behaviour was disgraceful and an embarrassment to Sedibeng municipality.

"In February this year, he made similar news when he fell at a bar because he was allegedly drunk and he had to be assisted by those around him just to get back on his feet," she said.

"What will the public who placed him in office think of this behaviour?"

Gauteng police said earlier on Thursday that Mo***eng was arrested on Tuesday after bumping into another car while leaving a Vanderbijlpark hotel.

Brigadier Neville Malila said a sample of Mo***eng's blood was taken at a hospital.

"He was released on Wednesday morning [on] R1000 bail. He spent Tuesday evening in police cells."

Mo***eng did not have to appear in court, with the case postponed to September 5.

Sodlulashe-Motau said that with Mo***eng not appearing in court, she hoped the justice system would not be biased in resolving the matter.

Should Mo***eng be found guilty, he should be held accountable for his actions.

Director in Mo***eng's office, Andries Mapetla, confirmed that an incident had taken place on Tuesday night.

"Yes it is true that he was involved in a motor car accident, and as best as it is understood, it was just a minor accident."

He could not comment any further as he had not spoken to the mayor himself.

Regarding the incident in February, Mapetla said the matter was being looked into.

"An investigation is taking place on that. We haven't had a result as of yet," he said.

ANC to probe Sedibeng Mayor

The ANC Gauteng will conduct its own investigation into the arrest of Sedibeng mayor Mahole Simon Mo***eng, it said on Thursday.

"The ANC Gauteng has seen and noted all media reports on the alleged arrest of the Sedibeng executive mayor Mahole Simon Mo***eng, as a result of an alleged drunken driving accident," it said in a statement.

"The ANC intends on conducting its own investigations, and if there is any truth to the allegations, we will... refer the matter to the [ANC's] integrity committee to handle and deal with all its consequences."

Mo***eng was arrested on Tuesday night for alleged drunk driving after he had a minor car crash while leaving a Vanderbijlpark hotel.

Police spokesman Brigadier Neville Malila said a sample of Mo***eng's blood was taken.

"He was released on Wednesday morning [on] R1000 bail. He spent Tuesday evening in police cells. The case had been postponed until September 5."

The African National Congress said while it viewed the allegation in a serious light, the matter was with the police.

It encouraged everyone to allow the law to take its course, and cautioned that Mo***eng should not be judged until the investigations were concluded.

Andries Mapetla, a director in Mo***eng's office, confirmed the crash.

"Yes it is true that he was involved in a motor car accident, and as best as it is understood, it was just a minor accident."

He said he could not comment further as he had not spoken to the mayor himself.
