Selebi to be released today

I could just die from not being surprised.

Who here really thought he would stay in prison?

I was being serious when I posed the question about Selebi's illness. I mean, I understand how the ANC get their friends out of jail, but at the very least they normally have some explanation for what the so-called terminal illness is that the person suffers from ... and in Selebi's case I was wondering what it is.

Incredible how ill these politically connected inmates get. Is there something contagious about the ANC, apart from corruption, nepotism, fraud and ineptitude?

I Got Caught Syndrome.

Hypertension. High blood pressure apparently. But then his doctors refused to comment further.

So, same as Shabby...

Heard it on the radio 30 minutes ago. Knew this was coming when he immediately fell "ill" after hearing his verdict.

Sugar diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney complications.

Cured with a daily pill.

Others have terminal cancer, but can't get an early release ?

ANC ethics at work here - I just can't believe how corrupt these guys are, and so blatantly !

Yes, very very unfair towards all the other ill prisoners.

Not a problem...

Not a problem...

Common at his age.

None of this warrants an immediate release...

Since he is not in the Zuma camp, I can only surmise that he is in possession of, errr, sensitive information that he would have no qualms in using if he is not released.

That"s what gets me as well and the way their supporters turn a blind eye to this with the it's an individual and not the organization excuse.

"He suffers from end stage renal disease. He is receiving dialysis three times a day. He more than qualifies for medical parole," said Ndabele."

Would love to see the medical parole stats.

Seems Selebi's case is quite serious:

"The department has limited capacity to provide for palliative care needed by some offenders," said Ndebele.

Palliative care meant he would be kept comfortable until his death, as there was no hope of him recovering.

An 11-member medical parole advisory board met on June 20 and recommended the release of six offenders, including Selebi, who needed dialysis for kidney failure.

Three of them had since died, said Ndebele

If that is true, I would agree that he can be relased on medical parole BUT the same must happen to the other prisoners who are terminally ill.
