i have an odd problem at work, and i think it's our smc router.

it started with no emails (mail.eco-time.com) and i noticed mybroadband wasn't working either (so i had to get the app for my phone). couldn't ping it, and could only tracert until 196.43.11.218 (5th "hop"). however, if i connected my phone to the wifi connection, it worked fine.

this went on all of last week (i'm the designated IT guy here) and i couldn't do a thing, because i had to go see bloody customers all rhe time (much like this week). i decided to reset the router and redo the settings, but that was a cockup. now even less of the internets is available.

i've added google's dns servers to the router and some computers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) and now google, yahoo, facebook works, but still no emails.

do you think our router is stuffed? only way to test it would be a new router and i doubt they'd let me buy one just to check. anyone had this issue yet?

thanks in advance. ;)

i think it's hetzner. and we're with south africa off-line here.

i was away for three days (job in pietermaritzburg, then umzimkulu and then a sick day), and now it's all sorted. magically. i have no idea what caused this, and how long it's going to stay up for. our cape-town and jhb branches never had an issue at all.

i created gmail accounts to download the email from the mail server and then got us downloading from there. i'll just leave it like that, because it works better. :)
