What self development books do you recommend?

Just going through a rough patch and I'm just looking for some books that can encourage me to become a better person mentally, emotional, spiritually and all that. I bought one book called "The Power of positive thinking" by Normal Vincent Peale and will be reading it over the long weekend.

Not sure if its your style, but i prefer autobiographies as a form of motivation.

Something like Ranulph Fiennes Mad, bad and dangerous to know or even biographies of sportsman.
It gets me pumped up and eager to improve my own life

Try something on Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP.) I used to have a copy for NLP for Dummies which is as good a place to start as any but there are many other books available on NLP and there is plenty of info freely available on the web to look at before you commit to purchasing a book.

If you haven't heard of NLP before, it is a kind of common sense system of psychology that you can apply to develop postive mental attitude, achieve goals, build rapport and communicate more effectively with others amongst other things.

I thought NLP was some sort of hypnosis or something. LOL

I have had that book for years but haven't read it yet.

As a Man thinketh....had for decades, read it last month, finally. Now, am ready to complete; War and Peace..:D. J/K..
+1 for Robin Sharma, I have a few of his....and a handful of Deepak Chopra ebooks.

I'm busy listening to an audio book on Audible - "Your Brain at Work: Strategies for Overcoming Distraction, Regaining Focus, and Working Smarter All Day Long".

I don't think it will help anyone out of a rough patch. But it does bring together interesting concepts about different parts of the brain and the implications thereof. Centres mostly on the prefrontal cortex and our limitations in thinking and planning in uncertainty, but also delves into other areas such as the limbic system (emotions) and basal ganglia (routines) among others.

It illustrates ways to adapt yourself in real world situations by understanding how your brain works and why, and manages to do this quite nicely in layman terms as well.

It is of course a good sell one might see many times over in this field, but I have found this particular book quite well laid out and interesting.

You MUST get yourself "No Excuses: The Power of self-discipline" by Brian Tracy. It's a fantastic book to read when you are down and when you want to grow more.

I am not really a book person, but I thoroughly enjoy browsing through some videos on www.ted.com

Ted also has a Channel on Youtube and an Android app.

One that I watched a few minutes ago actually.

Downloaded this last week and busy readin it now.Tells you why the high income earners are actually very poor.

The Power of Now : Eckhart Tolle

50 Self Help Classics : Tom Butler Bowden ( his sister book 50 Success Classics is also worth a read)

Get Brian Tracy's audio programs on Self Confidence and Self Discipline.Very helpful.

Norman Vincent Pearls book uses faith and belief in God as a basis for Positive Thinking so its aimed more at the religious folk.
