Hello!

(Firstly admin sorry if this is in the wrong section, please move this post if it is)

I'm just curious, is anyone self hosting any websites/communities on server/PC/raspberry using any of the ISPs in SA?

Is port-forwarding even allowed on Vodacom/MTN routers etc?

If so what's your experience and which ISP are you using?

I have not used mobile carrier internet services for a long time as I have fiber.

Cheers :)

You can it shouldn't stop you.

With Mobile networks excluding Telkom they only offer an unrestricted apn to their contract clients. If you go for a MTN Fixed LTE from an ISP you get public routable IP's and Telkom makes the unrestricted APN available without the need for forms to be filled and emailed.

Should work fine as long as the router used can forward the ports and you get a public IP. In terms of stability, well you need to pick the network with the best coverage and speed for where you are based. It varies so you would need to test it.

Rain doesn't offer public routable IPs, and no unrestricted APNs, so just remember that when picking a mobile ISP :)
