Self-Install available?

I'm trying to get ADSL installed, but I'm stubborn and refuse to pay Telkom a cent more than is required. Therefore, I'd like to self-install if at all possible.

Have now phoned new services 2 times, and I've been into the Tygervalley Telkom shop. Have been told 3 different stories:

1) Self-Install is only available in Gauteng
2) Self-Install is only available in the southern suburbs of Cape Town
3) What is Self-Install? I'll put you through to the technical dept. (Which happened to be Telkom Internet - and who then proceeded to drop my call.)

In short - is there anyone here in the Cape's northern suburbs who'se done a self-install? Is it available? (I'm in Brackenfell area btw...)

I just got adsl installed last week, I was not allowed to do self-install, damit, but they said I would get 50% of on that.I am in Blouberg.

my friend got self-install in Sea Point.. they told him how to do it over the phone! how sweet of Telkom

As far as I'm concerned, self-install is available everywhere. Just add POTS filters to your phones/fax. Plug in your modem and your ready to rock.
Oh and do the validation thing on the Telkom website.

Update: Went to the shop in Canal Walk today - told the same story - Self-Install only available in southern suburbs and the "country" areas. It used to be offerred in northern suburbs, but was then discontinued. No reason given. (So if you live in Stellies or Paarl, you can get it - else not. Makes no sense.)

The guy then proceeded to offer me 50% off installation because self-install wasn't available. The Tygervalley branch did not mention anything about a 50% discount. Sounds fishy to me...

(Maybe as an experiment I should say I'm in Rondebosch and see if its then only available in the northern areas )
