Self install not working

Hey guys

My bro got his adsl line reconnected again using the self install option but something is not right..

His modem manages to sync but no matter what account he connects to he cannot browse or do anything. Now the weird part is when he uses a telkom guest account he can get into the telkom site and browse which makes u wonder what the heck is going on..

I'm clueless as how to help, he has tried possibly everything and it does not make sense, can anybody possibly suggest what we could try

is he letting the router connect or is PC through PPPoE?

Is he perhaps using his old router with an old account still setup on it? That might be the problem if he now wants to use PPPoE on Windows for instance to handle the connection. He should reconfig it. He probably has, but you never know. :)

His best bet is to call 0800 375 375 and ask them for help, (maybe they will know as much as he does) :D

And btw what you mean he had it reconnected? So, he had it before? :confused:
 
He is using a normal standard usb modem. Funny thing is on the telkom guest account he can browse the telkom site.. so it can't be a modem or setup problem can it?

What service provider? Is his account activated?
 
He has tried several different isp's and its the same problem and yes he has veriefied it through the above webpage. :(
 
Verify the ADSL line.

Hi Guys

Phone telkom in the morning and tell them to verify the line. The ADSL line is not verified although the phone line works. The tech that comes to install the line normally does it, but seeining that it was a self-install it was probably never done. Had the same problem with a few clients. Normally takes about 20mins after you phone them.

I just phoned the 0800375375, took me awile but got there in the end. :(

One question:
When you check on the router's config page under status, does it say connected?

The reason I'm asking this is because all my clients had the same problem that you explained, cant connect to any sites but can connect to the Telkom guest site, once they verified the line everything was A OK.... ;)
 
My bro is using a adsl usb modem so i'm not sure of the status but I think you are correct, i don't think the line has been verified. It's all good thankyou for the help will get him to phone them tomorrow and sort it out. Once again thankyou

Try this, its used if you do not yet have an ISP to test the sytem. You are rigt it is a Quest to get it going but before that you may be a guest first!

Telkom Guest Account:
Username: guest1@telkomadsl
Password: guest1
