Selling a car without papers

Hi, i need to sell a car that was given to me as a gift, car has no papers and its a non-runner, i wanted to sell it to scrap yards or somebody who is willing to use it for parts as it has no papers. Does anybody know whats is the procedure.
 
It was given to you as a gift but it has no papers? Did it not belong to the person who gave it to you?

You would want to tread very carefully here, the car should be deregistered before you sell it as a scrap, otherwise someone could fix, drive it and do bad things, everything will point back to the owner of the car.
 
One post and asking that makes me go /mmmmm nope.
 
Do a VIN check to see if the car is stolen, also you can get the registration papers from the traffic department if you can prove that you are the owner - considering the car comes out clean.
 
Police clearance has been done, so i'm 100% sure that the car is not reported as stolen, i have tried getting the papers but unfortunately without any form of consent from the original owner i can't be assisted, and that is the reason i now wanna get rid of the car.

How was the police clearance done without the original owner's details/signature or the original papers?
 
I think what he means is that there are papers for the car, but he can’t get them because he’s not the registered owner.

To answer the OP’s question, it’s best you don’t sell the thing, just give it away and make it someone else’s problem. After all, you didn’t pay anything for it.
 
Good evening, I am currently sitting with a similar situation. I am stuck with my late mother's car since March 2019. My stepfather was supposed to sort out the papers for the vehicle but he had used a lawyer to do her estate and made himself power of attorney. Then in July 2020, he threw a spanner in the works by taking his life and his lawyer will not do anything with my late mom's estate.

Hi I have a similar situation. My Father bought me a car a few years ago, to practice driving on. The owners never gave him the papers. Every year we paid the licence to them. The car is standing still no runner for 2 years so I haven't paid the license as they refuse to give the papers to us. Now they've deregistered the car saying that if she dies the car is going to be part if her estate. I now want to sell it for scrap. What do I do?

motor registration

I brought a car from someone that wasn't the owner. this guy don't have any contact with the owner of the car so I can't get the car on my name without the owner's id I only have the id number and surname of him/ ANY HELP

My Wife's ex husband bought a car without papers the previous owner send the license each year but he does not send the papers, the car broke down and it is not worth fixing it because it will cost more to fix than the value of the car is now she also wants to sell the car but what must she do to sell the car without the papers?

She can't legally sell a car that she doesn't own...

Hi, I have a similar issue. My late mother gifted me a Renault Sandero which is currently a non runner. When my mother passed October 2022 my father (who's whereabouts are unknown) went MIA with the letter of Authority since he was married in community of property. I am stuck as I wish to fix this car and use it as I'm in Tertiary but since I'm in this predicament I am now thinking of scrapping it for so that I can atleast get another used car of the same value. What can I do?
