In a small guest house, how would one sell internet time? Like for example, connect to a portal and buy time etc?

Fsck. I will never stay there. Free internet please. Don't be cheap.

Afaik Unifi also offers a decent voucher WiFi access facility

Free internet or nothing jeez how do you expect to attract guests.

I have stayed in many B&Bs where you have to pay for wifi. I don't. I tether to my mobile. But it is common practice to charge for it.
Reason I don't pay for it is because the signal is generally poor - and I find that very annoying.
Not sure what system they use - sorry.

Mikrotik routers offer amazing hotspot service. You can offer trials, different packages ect.

I'd say let your customers get 30 minutes free and then pay if they want. But make the speed basic and have cheap pricing. Otherwise i doubt that anyone would buy it

Just buy a router with throttle enabled ports.

configure one port (the one to the guest house access point)

visitors get "free" internet - limited to 1Mbps.

But for a "small fee" they get 100mbps, uncapped.

:-)

Maybe he is cheap, as in don't charge much for the accommodation. Can't then exactly be demanding free internet on his dime. Sheesh people nowadays...

Even the likes of protea hotel only give you a small amount free and you must pay for any more than that.

I visited Hamburg some time ago (Germany)

The entire city is one big FREE wifi hotspot.

at crazy speeds too.

Try using a Unifi set up. It's quick and easy to set up and has a lot of guest network features with payment vouchers from multiple providers

More important question, does OP still have a guest house?

This is not a good business case. People who need to make use of guesthouses usually make provision for their own internet because they'll usually be travelling on business.

Unless the place has unusually kak mobile coverage.
