by scrapping it I don't mean taking it to the scrap yard and crashing it - I mean by scrapping it on paper you force the new owner to re register it on their name / new number plates / road worthy etc. just trying to avoid any scams

Absolutely not!!
By scrapping it, you are turning it into a worthless hunk of metal that will become useless to anyone trying to sell it in the future.

You scrap a vehicle when it has been written off or stolen - that's it!

Cash and they do the paperwork, you just have to fill in a form and sign it for them, they also need the logbook.

Use Autotraders for the prices

For some reason, I don't like this. I sold a scooter a few years back and handed the paper work over to the buyer and he said he'll finnish it. Few years later, the scooter is still in my name.
Next time I'll do the transfer of ownership paperwork myself, just to get the thing off my name.
