I'm going to try mapping it out first and see how that works. The idea of touching the sensor (or the glass in front of it at least) gives me the heebie-jeebies.Certainly looks like it. You're going to have to get a cleaning kit:

I've got one of those that I'll try too. What about those dust-blowing thingies?

Trust me, as soon as they make one with a decent camera I probably will. You should get yourself a cellphone with a decent camera... then you wouldn't have these issues!![]()
But you have to pay (R250 I seem to recall). I think Nikon does it for free.AFAIK you can take the camera to a canon center and they will clean the sensor for you.
I spotted this dark spot last night and of course now that I've seen it I just keep looking for it (ignorance was bliss). I think it's sensor dust

I'm talking about the grey blur inside centre of the white ring. I've just updated the dust data so we'll see if that helps. It seems to be holding on despite the sensor shaker.Do you mean the smudge? I can't figure out if it's something on the sensor or just part of the cloud patterns. The dot is definitely a light - you can see the lamp post under it. Post a 100% crop maybe?
Does the 400D have the sensor shaker? Seems to work pretty well on the 40D.
Since I know what I'm looking for I can see it on most of the images from that camera - its definitely something to do with the sensor.Take a photo of a (clean) white wall with good lighting.
Not much point in looking for smudges in pic that is full of clouds & dust anyway.
