Again, I don't know if this has been covered before, I can't find anything on the forum, but has anyone ever read the FAQ on sentech's site, specially the part regarding latency ?

quote:
Does the distance to the nearest high site affect my latency?
Yes, latency may vary depending on both signal quality and distance from the nearest high site. Depending on these factors latency to the MyWireless hub may vary between 40ms in ideal conditions to 120ms in adverse conditions.

If 120ms is described as adverse conditions, wth do they call they 490ms - 2300ms I get ?

Hehe ... open a call centre ticket ;-) ... On second thought ... slit your wrists - more likely to bring some sort of results ;-)

In preparation for the AMAZING "FIX" slated for today (friday) I've actually been running tests at 10 minute intervals to see if there are any differences ... One of these tests is a ping test ...

If I have time I'll compile a nice summary breakdown after the weekend on tests performed from the Mywireless network and external tests TO the MyWireless network.

looky ... you have the same **** pings I get, only you have lower minimums than me. what tower you on ?

Tower 12 Mintek (17% signal) - Interesting to see that incomming traffic (not shown here is VERY) close to this as well...

Looking at Rhino's "Speed Jump" thread I should move to DBN ;-) ... No wonder it's the kick arese MyWireless area - ProASM is there ;-)

Maybe we should just steal some of his hair or something and clone him, or make voodoo dolls and force him to come tweak our towers

These are what everyones pings should look like after today, assuming sentech hold promises.
Mine have always been in this range.
ping command was run at 00:32

Ping statistics for 66.18.65.115:
Packets: Sent = 150, Received = 150, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 50ms, Maximum = 491ms, Average = 109ms

RegardTV, were you pinging locally, my international results come quite close to the ones you posted earlier... Oh well, at least your local min turnaround time beats my international min :)

Ping statistics for 216.239.51.147:
Packets: Sent = 40, Received = 40, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 314ms, Maximum = 540ms, Average = 366ms

I can't inderstand how the results can vary so much between users on the same network

It never stops amazing me either

My Ping times are exactly like the ones Malec is experiencing, and im on Base station 36, Sunnyside.

Whats confusing is, local the avg is always 450-600ms, internationally, the ping avg is 750-900ms. So if all is right, We should get a 500 or so International avg, and a 150 at highest local.

I have 37% signal...

Yes, since malec is on Sunnyside PTA as well. I think the tower is still stuffed so we wont be seeing any good results soon. Its been like this for over a week now. Hopefully this Friday story included the fixing of our useless tower. Somehow I think it was the fixing of the 'global' problem.

Strange that people are actually thinking its going to be fixed today. When before have they delivered on their promises? My speed is still sucking and has been for about 10 days (except a couple of hours here and there when everything was cool)

well I was pinging last night and I can tell you this.. you will NEVER have a max less than 250ms.. it's the spike that happens to this system, unless they change and enhance it further but you will have a better average.. DBN is running an average of around 150ms to www.saix.net and 120ms to www.sentech.co.za.. yes there are still 300-400ms spikes but the average ping time is in the hundreds.

Cerberus

Well I opened my ticket for 36 last night. KemoSabi and greedyflyza, if you guys don't already have open tickets for this open some ... maybe we can have it looked at before Christmas

I'm almost always in the 98-120ms range - day or night???
Yes... there is the occasional spike (that's life) but
it's not too often.
Has anyone looked at the link between ping times and SNL.
I believe that there may well be something here!
(Decent Signal + Good SNL = decent ping times)???

Bay of Plenty: Signal 46% - SNL 17 - ber 71%

The pings will never be good, that's just part of the signalling. Don't trust the "Average" that your ping utility reports either. The average is broken by the fact that every now and again, a ping of around 1500ms will come through, and this skews the true media by a lot.

On the old firmware, those 1500ms pings were just dropped into never-never-land, but with the x.8 firmware they get retransmitted, but gain a bit of extra round-trip time. This, is good, since on the old firmware those pings would have been dropped. Slow packets = better than packet loss.

Rather, take a look at the individual pings themselves. They fluctuate between 80-250 for me most of the time.

I downgraded to 4.2.1.2b last night and I still get the high ones. And mine seems to fluctuate between 179 - 1xxx
