Sentech Gaming

We all know that Sentech is hardly an acceptable option for gaming due to the high pings and packet loss but from what I see when I pings the sentech site its relatively fast compared to the SAIX servers which have huge packet loss. Now what I am wondering was if Sentech was able to implement their own gaming servers then wouldn't we be able to connect to those and have a fairly decent gaming experience.

Basically I'm saying use the "internal" sentech network to connect only mywireless IP's to a main gaming server at sentech HQ. Is this stupid and unrealistic or a possibility.

Maybe a Tribes 2 server just to test it out since the game can be freely downloaded. How could we get this started if its feasible? Proasm?

I'd we interested to see if this would work, any theories?

correction: Sentech is hardly an acceptable option for FPS gaming...

i've been playing MMORPGs on my connection since I got it - and I seldom have problems. granted the slow pings cause rubberbanding (having to run over the same stretch of world a few times) every now and again, but I've always been able to play these games on it.

Btw, the MMORPGs run on international servers.

Yeah thats true about the MMORPG but what I am trying to say is what about FPS in SA. Surely a 150 ping is acceptable.

thats why I kept my isdn (and telkom ignoring my stopping of service letter). Any ping above 80 for me is unacceptable and I get 30 - 60 with my 128k isdn. Now this I gotta ask, I've seen this all over the place and have no idea what the hell it is. What it this MMORPG thing I see peeps talking about? It's sounds rpg style, but what does it abreviate?

Saul 150 ping is crap for FPS unless you take pleasure in being helpless cannon fodder. Maybe if everyone was on the same crappy ping it would be OK, but to have any kind of decent FPS experience sub-80ms pings are needed - until the IPWireless system changes and reduces pings, forget FPS on MyWi.

err Saul, expecting Sentech to setup a gaming server is asking alot, thats the sort of thing that real ISPs do, Sentech is not a real ISP, rather just a provider of bandwidth. If it was a real ISP we could expext, inter alia, a News server, multiple mail accounts/aliases, a small private webhosting solution, web access to email, an ftp server, gaming server etc.... oh yes and a decent support desk (oh wait, sentech has one of those! [xx(])

I agree with you, i would LOVE a sentech games server (as well as all the other stuff mentioned)
but they have much bigger fish to fry at the moment.

Besides, latency is not an issue if you play Internet Reversi []

I would love a few Sentech game servers maybe we could throw it out there for them? mmm on second thought i doubt there is a big enough demand for it.

Fantasy is what people want, reality is what they need.

touche, i mean look at how long SAIX took before they got decent gaming servers...

Sentech should start getting their act together as an ISP, THEN when things go well, implement gaming servers
