Sentech to Launch New MyWi packages

I think that's exactly why they've introduced these new packages. Obviously everyone doing 20GB a month doesn't equate to huge profits.

Okay it's official. The guys running Sentech are nuts. I was really looking forward to some competition in the market, after all the hype (and the fact that up till now their broadband business is failing), but No.

I'm currently using an MTN EDGE connection through my phone, with true roaming, better performance and coverage than MyWireless, AND it's still cheaper. Telkom and the Cell operators must be laughing their socks off.

Thanks, but I'd rather go with the Pigopoly and stable-ish anaemic ADSL than sign a contract with a bunch of clueless idiots. Maybe one day they'll open up DSL as it should be, but a bad platform will always be such. HomeDSL here I come . . .

that doesn't make sense, bc/ nobody will take the flexi packages in that case.
I fear that sentech is going to abandon the old packages. Question is what happens to existing customers...
 
Sentech Head Office told me (an hour ago) that existing customers stay, as is, on the old standard packages.
They can move to the flexi option if they so wish. (It is purely optional)
The flexi package is in addition to the old standard package, and is not replacing it!

do you know if one can be converted from bundled to unbundled contract by paying off the balance for the modem?

The flexi packages are a joke.
For R200 per month on flexi you get 200 MB.
For the same price on 3G with Vodacom you get 250 MB, plus you get Vodacom's far superior coverage, and FAR FAR FAAAAAAAR superior customer service.

The 500 and 1000 MB packages are also not that great. They cost only R50 less than what you can get on Vodacom or MTN 3G. For that R50 you would be selling your soul to the devil. Besides, for 500 MB or 1000 MB you might as well get ADSL, cause with Sentech mobility is only a theory.
 
however i don't understand sentech's approach in flexi packages.

it is R150 cheaper to have MyWireless Standard(128K) than MyWireless Flexi 3000 (3GB cap).
and it is R1450 cheaper to have MyWireless Standard(128K) than MyWireless Flexi 10000 (10GB cap).
we all know that you can possibly use 10GB with Standard 128K package for flat R649 pm.

what are they thinking....?

they should've reduced their current(old) packages other than introducing crap products like flexi which is not competitive.

Summary:

Whilst it will probably still be a few weeks until all the real detail emerges,
and the facts become clear, here is my take on this:
I think that the "flexi" plan is weird to say the least. I can't see any major advantage in going that route.
The standard or current packages provides for far better value if you compare bang for buck.

Yes, MyWireless is very stable (I can't recall when I was last disconnected).
Yes... I'm getting my full download speeds these days .... even international.
Would I change to another ISP/Service? - No, I'm quite satisfied.
Yet at the same time I am also using an EDGE card (MTN), and am VERY
happy with it's mobility and large footprint. (It is slower than MyWireless 256 though).

The above two solutions work very well for me, with the added important
bonus of not having to deal with, or support Telkom.
But I have stopped trying to understand the logic of Sentech's Marketing .... as there is none :)

trying to compete with dialup market? they havent even beaten the broadband market

R2000 fro 10 gigs a month.... WTF

you could get instead...
2x adsl 512 (+- R500 each in a few days) - R1000
2x line rentals (yea &* telkom) - R200
2x 30gig isp accounts - R700

all for just R1900 (rough guestimate), now thats R100 cheaper then that crap wireless that either works or doesnt, + youve got 50 gigs more, and way faster spead.... since when is telkom the best option 0_o

IMO there just trying to attract the most stupidest of customers, and give them nothing for a cr@p load of money, either that or telkom are paying them alot of money under the table to make themselves look good!
 
after sentech mywireless packages were launched, telkom introduced 384K and the 192K respectively.
haha what a joke. sentech participated heavily to produce that joke. :p

we are going backwards!
 
It's only above 1G that Sentech's prices makes any sense compared to the mobile phone co's.

But they are saying they want the low end market, typically below 1G, and there their prices are more expensive than the cellphone co's. This really makes no sense at all.

I'm not sure who bumped their head or fell of the bus, but I think the Boardband Service Providers (networks) have really missed a feww import fundamentals of BOARDBAND.

Why on earth has the South African market bought into the "bug bear" of CAPPING!!!!

Sentech now talk of pay-as-you-go; but 200Mb or 10Gb depends on you usage level; what I load of @*&*)(@

I thought the principal of boardband was to BUY a "PIPE"; the speed the link works at and REGARDLESS of useage you pay for the "PIPE size"

Why must we have a defferent model to US and UK markets.

It is a little more complex than that!
It is better to compare SA to countries like Australia and New Zealand where
they also often make use of a cap, and where the greatest expense is the
cost of the International feed. In SA it is even worse, this as Telkom have a
TOTAL monopoly on the SAT3 submarine cable.
The USA basically relies on LOCAL interconnects .... whilst the UK have HUGE
capacity links across the Atlantic. Countries like Korea offer massive pipes,
but one has to consider that due to their language barrier, usage is mostly
LOCAL too.
.... so... for the short answer: Government and Business need to put massive
pressure on Telkom. For as long as this Monopolistic situation continues there is
little chance of cheap or affordable broadband in SA.

Unlike SA, Koreans have abundant local content to enjoy 365 days a year.

I believe one of the reasons why this is so is because Korea has a high literacy rate. If I'm not mistaken above 80% or 90%. I'm not sure what the rate is in SA but it is much lower than that.

I work for one of the Sentech partners "Nowire".. we have some new flexi packages which produce greater options and versatility, but these are in addition to the existing packages , not as replacements! :D
 
OK RoseAfrica, firstly, sell me the flexi-option equal to the MyWi Pro (256) in price (R699 unbundled) and tell my why is the new flexi better than the old Pro. Secondly, get NoWire to reflect the renamed MyWi names (Std,Pro,Premium) since 128,256 & 512 was speed related and we all know the outcome of the ASA suggestion. Thirdly, please ask the NoWire website developers to get the site FireFox friendly :)
