Sentech to offer higher speeds, extend coverage

It will be nice to have a viable alternative to ADSL here in PE - if it ever gets here that is.

The company said that the uptake of MyWireless is currently not satisfactory, but that it is reviewing it's existing product sets and approach to increase it's uptake for their broadband services.

If they made their prices cheaper they would get more customers and so more revenue!

So.....they said basically.

We will become faster.....sometime in the future.
We will cover more than 80%...sometime in the future.

It's amazing how they announce this.

What would you do if ure favourite processor or graphics card maker said.

We will be faster...sometime in the fuure.
We will be more available...Sometime in the future.

It would be self apparent that any company that wants to keep up would become easier to reach and more powerful for the same $$'s.

What they are really saying is: Dear customers, please don't leave us.

Sentech - the imminent company!

ja its pretty dumb statement from them i mean obviously they not gonna "strive" to be slower or the same? so the only way would be faster and better coverage?

Sadly, all too often this is a form of maths that short-sighted, narrow vision, piggy-minded accounting-types just don't get ..least of all in this country! No-o-o, HERE it's all about squeezing every last drop as fast as possible for the fattest short term profit$$$, at the expense of long term sustainability.

..*ahem*. OK, that's the rant part ; but even more relevant to the subject of pricing/revenue ..and just plain decency (HAH! ..like we'll ever see THAT from Big Business!), maybe someone can reconcile the Sentech's MyWireless Classic here to stay article with the now Flexi-only "option/choice/value" currently offered by them. For my part, I won't be holding my breath waiting for a response to that one.

when i signed up for MyWi more than 2 years ago, the guy who signed me up told me the sentech would gradually move people up into higher speed brackets and that the 128 package i signed up for would eventually become 256 etc. b/c these slower packages would become obsolete.

so basically i've been waiting for 2 years to be upgraded at no extra cost, yet i have a sneaky suspicion that sentech is going to make up pay now for these faster speeds

Hey, Why dont Iburst tell people when they put up new towers, I had no idea of this...

They just keep going, and as you can see, they are obviously taking from Sentechs subscriber base, with uptake "not being satisfactory".

The problem is that Sentech said they are plaaning to lauch this service sometime soon (im not worried about the "imminent factor") and this probably means that the normal packages wont get the speed increase and you will have to pay or sign up to a capped service for better speds. He dsoesnt seem to be saying that speeds are getting upgraded, but that a new faster service is being launched... probably a more "flexi" type service than classic.
A shame, Sentech really do have the technically best packages around in terms of cap and shaping, tey should be marketiung and better those as well as their service.

'The company said that the uptake of MyWireless is currently not satisfactory, but that it is reviewing it's existing product sets and approach to increase it's uptake for their broadband services.'

Reviewing its product sets and approach? Gobbledygook !

The uptake is not satisfactory because the product is not satisfactory. Because the service is not satisfactory and the support is not satisfactory.
Reading the forums , the complaints are hardly ever price-related.

For starters how about having a bulletin board which is up-to-date, with the real story, and which clients are actually able to post to !

If 'approach' means attitude then yes - it requires severe reviewing. Sentech customer communication is appallingly, pathetically, frustratingly, unprofessionally - abysmal.

And no, I don't feel better after that.

I do believe that sentech's mywireless classic is the type of package we should be getting from telkom. They are the only people giving us realistic caps.

The prices are still too high and the speeds are now too slow since they launched, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper than getting ADSL.

If Sentech really wanted more product takeup. They should up the speed to the 3mbit maximum of the modem and upped the cap to 80-120GB. That is what we should be getting for our R1500 per month.

I know the numbers look extremely high for South Africa. THEY ARE NOT. We have been conditioned to think that they are high. In the international context they are average! if not overpriced.

Does anyone have a spare nuke in their garage for me to blow telkom up with?

Sigh

noswal : MyWireless classic is by far the cheapest broadband option per GB

Um, guys the MyWireless classic has been discontinued. They are still deciding over whether to let currents users stay on the Classic packages. So no more high cap in SA at good prices. Oh and good bye Sentech.
