Sentech Tops.

I spoke to a chap from Nowire on monday and seems like the Menlo tower is running lekka. And according to him Menlo it's quite busy. I've I've also been visting my folks in Meyerspark last sunday and jumped on the LaMontage tower. And that also seemed faster, didn't do a speed test.

Clipse,
"Sentech 128k users welcome to signup for Proxy Service." What would this help me?
How would this help me?

Tech, that would've been ideal during the period when intl was throttled and local not. Running thru Clipse's local proxy would've meant all your traffic is seen as local, thus full package speed. Not necessary now (for the moment :D)

Tech, Sentech's local bandwidth is supposedly 1:4, wheras their international is supposedly 1:15 (ha!) so if you use a proxy service from clipse because your international sucks, you can utilise the local bandwidth to surf internationally without much speed degradation.

Expect it not to last... I was on the same package as you last year until they decided to "fix things" in august...

Ok ... I see the point but what contension ratio is clipse working with?
50k/s could be half of the clips backbone. :-)

At the moment I get speeds close to my package limit (128 as per my sig). Since my contract expired in May, I'll stick to 128 until I have other options available (also as per my sig :D)

Before I took MyWire I tested iBurst /VC and MyWire.
And MyWire was tops for me.

The throughput on iBurst was really ****. Very bursty and gave me to much trouble.
VC speed was so-so but had problems with uptime and being kicked of the system on regular basis and they are 50% part of Telkom and I would rather invest in another comp. I found the ST service to be more reliable and speeds lekka. As well as most of our customers that we visit fall within the MyWire coverage area.

I must say, i'm also happy with MW to the extent that they now deliver what you supposedly pay for. i can generate traffic worth 1 Gig in a day now on a 128K package. and the service is very stable.

they must have sent all their support staff out in the field to fix towers etc, b/c i never EVER received a responce to the occasional question i used to mail to customer support.

At the moment i'm happy no to bother them as long as they don't bother me...

(still think they should offer more, cheaper to become competitive)

I think the fact that it's a fairly new technology plays a big role in the general service. The longer/more this technology is being used the better it will get. Like any new technology there are always problems. But I believe as South Africans, if we would bite the bullet and support the minority we would see a lot better/cheaper services. I also think the demography of South Africa makes things a lot more difficult than in many other countries.

To a certain extent I take my hat of to companies that try and bring a more competitive telecom enviroment. I believe it's not easy to go against companies like Telkom,Vodacom and MTN. They have already made so much money out of us that it must be difficult for a new business to survive ... unless we do our part.

But thats just my opinion.

Tech I am so glad to hear someone who isn't spouting for once. It appears to be a level headed comment amongst the knee jerk reactions we usually see... Ie yes there have been problems but we have come a long way. There will still be more problems but they are becoming more and more isolated and going head to head with the heavyweights of the teleco monopolies/cartels we have in SA right now is like you or I stepping into the ring with Lennox Lewis. Thanks. Can go to sleep now :-)
