Sequence of Ad-Hoc bundle usage bought last month vs Contract data?

I bought an add on data bundle last month, but the contract data never ran out. Now, in the new month, it starts to use my contract data immediately, and not the added data bundle. This mean that if I don't use all my contract data, I will loose the add-hoc bundle at the end of this month. I would have thought it should use the small add on bundle first, and then more will be left of the monthly data to carry over until end of next month ?
