Hey guys,

Anyone here know what would be the best way to retrieve a serial number & memory size (maybe using SNMP?) from a remote workstation, without having administrator rights on that PC or on the Domain?

I am trying to verify some things on my CMDB but the security is very tight with regards to domain admin accounts etc.

Any advice?

Just tried, only gives me basic information, asks for username / password which doesn't help :)

Unless i'm doing it wrong?

Clicked on Network then Remote Computer, Then Remote Computer Info

are you talking about the link i posted, or something else?

Also tried using System Information but again don't have the rights to any of the machines!

Whoops, sorry I didn't see remote... :o

Good luck though, sounds tricky!

i know nothing about the programme, sorry, i just have it on my pc but i am sure some will be able to help.

I use SpiceWorks, which in turn scans using the WMI feature of Windows, but it does need admin rights. I haven't come across a system that would pull such info out remotely.

If you find a solution, please post here so that we can learn from it :)

Asha,

One of the things i have been looking at is SNMP, as i believe most of the machines are in the public community string

i'm trying my luck to get domain workstation rights, i'll then try use MSINFO32.exe and try connect to a Remote Computer.

I know that the pilot of TADAM is happening soon, and its agentless, so i am pretty sure that the SNMP query can work, will take it up with the IBM guys and post feedback
