Serial Number & Memory Size

Hey guys,

Anyone here know what would be the best way to retrieve a serial number & memory size (maybe using SNMP?) from a remote workstation, without having administrator rights on that PC or on the Domain?

I am trying to verify some things on my CMDB but the security is very tight with regards to domain admin accounts etc.

Any advice?

you can get memory via snmp even better via WMI but have to have rights

not sure about serial numbers but maybe do an snmpwalk of your PC and then do a text search of the file with the serial number to see if you can pick up an OID.

SpiceWorks does use SNMP to query devices like printers and MFP's, as well as SSH for Linux and Mac boxes. I'm not sure if SNMP would work for the Windows machines though, unless they had the SNMP protocol installed on them. Most Windows installs do not have that installed by default.

chaging the subject of the thread a bit.
how many devices do you monitor with spiceworks?
and how do you find it? easy to manage/add/remove devices

your opinion of the pros and cons?

thanks
