MY brother has a device that uses serial port. It seems the new PC's don't have serial :/

Can he get a PCI card? Is there maybe a conver to USB or something? Any other way?

What device is it? Isn't a serial port what the KB and Mouse plugs into if it's not USB?

Yes to both your questions

1) You can get a RS232 port aka Serial port or there is USB to Serial convetors but i would suggest the PCI RS232 port

It's a Gtech performance measurement thing ... can download the graphs to a PC.

I'll check for those - thanks. I'm guessing normal shops like IC won't have?

USB to RS232 adapters are readily available, should be able to pick one up for around R150.

Esquire also stocks them, although I can't remember how much.

My Intel motherboard has a pinout for RS232, I would just need a 9 pin D Sub jack if I ever wanted to use it. Maybe your board has one.

+1

Dolby - check your motherboard first to see if it has a serial header-out - what make/model board do you have?

1) Check if your motherboard has the pins for a serial port, then just rip one out of an old computer and plug it into the motherboard.
2) You can buy add-in PCI cards with serial ports. I have seen them at Matrix.
3) you can also get the USB to serial converters.
