I want to be able to program in TV shows, and then when a new episode airs I would like to be alerted that the episode has aired.

I don't want to download the episode as with Sickbeard.

Both.

EDIT: Doesn't even need to be an app, maybe like a website service that emails you?

Although an app is first prize.

Use this. Sets up calendar alerts for you when an episode is going to air, and syncs with the Trak.tv and IMDb databases.

Come again?
If you subscribe to Rss Feeds in Eztv you will get all the new torrents, which means that the program has already aired?

That looks perfect, I will try it out.

I don't want torrents. I just watch the shows online without downloading.

I use SeriesGuide on Android. But hardly need it these days with Sickbeard automated...

I hear what you saying, i have Sickbeard set up, but my problem is, i dont always get a chance to see whats downloaded, so i don't know whats new really, so i can have like 3 episodes of something already downloaded, and not know what i have to watch, that's why the App would be awesome, so it can tell me what i have to watch tonight... So to speak.

I tried both Cliffhanger and SeriesGuide, and I prefer SeriesGuide.

I will try out the other options too thanks all.

I have to pay to unlock notifications, but it seems really reasonable. Only R15 a year. Or buy the pass thing for R75

Well worth buying. Link it to Trakt and it gets even better. All watched notifications synced and you never have to set it up again with all your shows. Just link to Trakt and it's sorted. Beauty of an automated media system is I load shows in Sickbeard, XBMC picks these up, Trakt syncs them all to my account, and they automatically pop up in things like SeriesGuide without doing a thing.

SeriesGuide is also awesome for movies. I have set CouchPotato to download movies from my Trakt watchlist, so all I need to do is browse movies on SeriesGuide, and those I like I just click 'add to watchlist'. It is then auto-synced to CouchPotato which then downloads it, sends it to my network drive, and updates all of the media centres in the house. All with one click of the button on my phone. It is truly awesome...

Is Trakt like the counterpart of SeriesGuide on a PC?

I'm not quite sure how I would benefit using that as well as SeriesGuide.

I'm not downloading anything, and only watching stuff on my PC/MBA.

No, they're different, but they sync with each other. Trakt is a database of your shows. When I watch something on XBMC, it syncs the watched status with Trakt. When I add a new show on Sickbeard, Trakt syncs it via XBMC. This means that everything is synced across all of my media players - shows, watched statuses, ratings, and it also allows me to truly automate the downloads from my phone by simply adding it to my watchlist.

I don't use Trakt's site. I've only looked in there a few times to see what it was like. I simply use the Trakt services to make my media systems awesome...

Thats why XBMC rocks. It has 2 views that is perfect for this.

1. Recently added
This is where you see anything that has downloaded and added recently XBMC. Usually the last few days worth of stuff will be in here.

2. In Progress TV shows
Now this one is a beauty. Sometimes TV shows are far ahead of where I am, and sometimes I forget about a show which had a new episode but gone past my recently added shows. These I can find all in here. It shows me shows which I have started watching, but haven;t finished.

Much better than an app, because I can just go plonk my ass down infront of the TV, and at my fingertips with the remote control look at what is ready to watch, either new or in-progress tv shows.
