Thats why XBMC rocks. It has 2 views that is perfect for this.

1. Recently added
This is where you see anything that has downloaded and added recently XBMC. Usually the last few days worth of stuff will be in here.

2. In Progress TV shows
Now this one is a beauty. Sometimes TV shows are far ahead of where I am, and sometimes I forget about a show which had a new episode but gone past my recently added shows. These I can find all in here. It shows me shows which I have started watching, but haven;t finished.

Much better than an app, because I can just go plonk my ass down infront of the TV, and at my fingertips with the remote control look at what is ready to watch, either new or in-progress tv shows.

You can even setup smart playlists to show you exactly what you want. I have one view set to only show me recent shows from my favourite episodes. I've also got a PseudoTV channel only for these, that plays the shows in order, and another channel for all new episodes, played in order...

These are all Add On's for XBMC right? I've heard of PseudoTV, but not really sure on what its about, will look at that too.

Those 2 views are built-in to XBMC. As long as you have set up your XBMC to use as "TV Shows" instead of "Videos", ie. it builds up a database of your video content, then those 2 views are there automatically and work as is.

I haven't actually ever set up playlists or smart playlist, so will have to look in to that, however pseudo tv is an addon, haven't ever felt like needing it myself.

Well if the "Recently Added" and "In Progress" works then you wouldn't need Pseudo or set up playlists and stuff, but its surely worth a look at, im still trying to show my household how to work XBMC, for them as long as you can double click on a file, and it opens, forget about everything else...

Heh they will quickly learn the ease of XBMC. I had friends and family and girlfriend pick it up very quickly without any problems. The interface is mostly self explanatory. At most, they just needed to figure out which buttons on the remote does what.

Download Yatse for Android and the official IOS remote for the Apple devices.

And PseudoTV is an addon that allows you to create actual channels from your media, so it works like DSTv but looks so much better...

Yatse for Android is awesome, if that is your cup of tea.

I personally have a infrared receiver on my HTPC and use a Logitech Harmony remote, which give the closest feel to like a device setup. So it very much is like a DSTV remote, which people also had to learn to use the 1st time around.

Yup, I've got 2 Harmony 700s which I prefer to use. And the Android remotes when I'm away from the media centre but still need to control it...

So Yatse then, sounds cool, i'll give it a go, how would it connect to my PC's XBMC? I guess i gotta play around with it when i get home and see...

In XBMC's services settings, enable pretty much everything (be sure to have advanced view switched on). Also be sure to have Apple's Bonjour service installed to allow it to announce its services to other devices so that Yatse can auto-configure.

On the UPnP side - enable it all.
Webserver - enable and leave as default unless you want to change the ports and password. Not really necessary
Remote control - enable both options to allow control programs on this and other systems to control XBMC
Under ZeroConf - enable announce the services
Airplay I also enable because it's awesome.

Yatse then connects via your WiFi network. Just add a new server in the manage options, and it should auto-find your XBMC systems. If it doesn't then you don't have Bonjour installed, so XBMC can't broadcast its details. But never fear, just manually input the IP, the port, then name, and the username (password optional if you enabled it) and voila, Yatse will work.

Sounds complex but it's actually just a matter of making sure that XBMC is set to allow control; that XBMC web server is enabled; and that it's allowing other devices to see it. Then it's matter of telling Yatse to save a specific media system. You can save multiple media systems...
