Fourways mall is dead, half the shops have closed down. and ofcourse I end up losing my car as usual and have to spend an hour looking for where i parked.

What the reason? High rent or crime.

High rent and horrible layout. The mall is just too big, You will walk 2km inside to get from one shop to another. No body wants to walk that far especially when you have multiple shops that you want to go to. signage is horrible so you get lost all the time, its like being in a maze.

I can concur, the last time I was there, against my free-will (had to take the kids to Bounce for a Bday Party), I got lost and wandered around for about 20min trying to trace back my steps back to the car (I did "memorise" the entrance but clearly forgot)

I call it the Frankenstein mall, bits and pieces of renovations just stitched together, no flow and feels like they are perpetually renovating it..

There are also no decent places to eat - just regular fast food-type places and a Mug & Bean. I went with my sisters a few weekends ago for gift shopping, and we felt like a cocktail. There is not a single place to have a good lunch and cocktail except Mugg and Bean. It's very meh.

I also really dislike their flooring in the large open area. When the sun is overhead, the shine from those tiles is very disorienting. Not to mention they are very slippery. I shop there out of necessity when I have multiple stops.

I don't think they are catering to the market around them, tbh. Seeing more and more discount-type stores going in (like PEP, Crazy Stores, etc). While it is not a bad thing, I just think it's indicative of how poorly the market has reacted to this mall.

The fact that the older part of the mall looks dilapidated does not help either. It's not cohesive. I suspect Covid probably derailed their plans quite a bit.

It's also too far from anywhere, and with petrol costing what it does haven't visited for years.

You are correct, there are no restaurants, even the few fast food places they have are in awkward area so its hard to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. The reason for discount shops, i assume is to attract people from diepsloot, Alex, Tembisa, Riversands etc. So it seems they dont even know what their target market is. its a mish mash. Also people from these areas already prefer going to MOA.

MOA at least has flow, but the Checkers and surrounding sections are like going into Marabastad - you need to have your spidey senses activated otherwise you will lose a hand-bag or even a child (true story for us on both these counts).

Malls are just yucky in general

Crime hotspots lately. See too many people just hanging around malls lately not buying anything just watching everyone.
