Can anyone recommend free & not so free software to monitor Window's & Linux Servers?!?

Specifically looking @ high utilisation, hardware issues e.g. low disk space, failing disk etc.

Investigate something called Cacti...

Once you get it working its pretty much the best thing around (barring massively expensive software I would reckon)

Nagios + Cacti - All you will need:

Nagios - monitoring software that does all you require (CPU / RAM / DISK load etc) (Monitor line flapping etc)

Graphing solution that can be used with Nagios - management love pretty graphs!

Hi there,
In the not so free category, I have used very successfully TeamQuest. The software is very easy to use and allows drill downs into problem areas. It has variable sampling periods so you can look at general monitoring and when issues arrive then increase the monitoring frequency and drill down to the problem areas.
They also offer predictive modelling software so when you are asked the questoin what server do we need for the next x years you can build a model based on expected transactions.

As I said not free but for a business serious about getting the best out of the servers I would recommend it.

Zabbix is nice if you want to monitor custom applications, but its not so great for monitoring standard hardware/operating systems.
We are using it to monitor our RHEL/Fedora servers, just because we're also monitoring the other applications that we're running on the same machine too.
