Service intervals: Is this normal?

I recently bought a used vehicle with +/- 7000km on the clock.
Since the car was exactly a year old, the dealership I bought it from completed a service before I took delivery.
So the book is stamped something like 7600km for the first service.
They reset the service indicator accordingly.
I'm now almost 22600km (15000km after the last service). The service indicator is illuminated.
I take it in and they will not service the vehicle.
Reason:
We don't calculate mileage since last service. The vehicle must be serviced as per schedule. 15000, 30000, 45000 etc or every 12 mo.

This is from national head office.

To me this really doesn't make sense. Using their logic for e.g. the oil must last over 20000km. And the fact they say "or every 12 months" means that at some point the interval will not coincide. All of this certainly does not agree with the owners manual.

It seems this isn't restricted to one brand. Similar applied to my wife's car; where they did not want to service after 12 months because the mileage was still below 15000km since the last service. Kinda in reverse of my situation.

Anyone else have these issues?

Doesn't sound right. Should be every 15 000km or 12 months, whichever comes first. So since it's been 15k km since the last service they HAVE to service it. Which brand is this?
 
It should have been serviced at 15k km's.

I had the same idiotic nonsense with renault whilst mine was still under warranty.

Their logic - 15k km's or 12 months if under 15k km's. If done at 12 moths then next one is due at 15k.
 
On my Hyundai Elantra it is every 15000km or 12 months, whichever comes first. Luckily we do just about 15000 km per year, so that keeps it in sync.
 
No, that's not normal. If it's been 15000km or a year, and the service light is on, they should service it.

Should be. Especially with rubber parts etc, **** perishes yo.

That's how I did my car, that's how my KTM was done, BMW was a bit more finnicky, but ja. Rather keep it inline with mileage services as doing the yearly service tends to throw things outta whack and people get confused.
 
Either Annually or at the interval of mileage, both from last service. That's the norm as far as I know. The service to be done should have been the 30000km on as the 15000km was done at 7500kms UNLESS your book specifically states a early service ( some cars are required to be brought in for settling or some such ) otherwise your service is always the next service, regardless of mileage or time passed.

For example, my car was on 97k but the service done was 105kms. Next will be 120kms even though it will probably only be around 108 or 110kms at the time.
 
I bought mine new. When I bought it, the dealership said it had to be serviced every 20000km. Whenever I take it in for a service, they check the current mileage, stamp the book and then where it says "Next service due at ______ km", they add 20000 to the current mileage and write the result in the space provided.

I sure hope they throw a service in at the same time.

So in other words the oil and components are NOT to be changed as specified by the manufacturer?
Because that's what it equates to.
If they are blindly adhering to the number on odo vs number in book the vehicle will at some point go over the recommended max mileage between services. This happens when the vehicle goes through an annual service that throws off any sync with the book.
