Can some of the GTi owners shed some light on how much a service costs you?
From what I understand, the labour and oil changes etc are covered. Only if something needs to be replaced then you pay? (i.e Brake pad or bulb etc)
Also im guessing the warranty covers Turbo failure etc?
I will be selling after 5 years and doubt i'll do over 90K KM

After the Mercedes price increase i'm looking around for a car again

Looking at the Golf 7 GTi DSG

Warranty does cover Turbo failures and stuff. I'm not sure about the service costs. I think it's around R2500 for a major service

I have a Golf 6 GTI with 70 000km on it and only every paid for brake pads @ 60 000km service and the wipers which are bloody expensive because of the rain sensor built in, think that cost me R5k, other than that no costs.

Services included upto 90km

About to replace mine with the GTI 7 or the 1.4 TSI Comfortline but scared I will miss the GTI too much.....

You should not have to worry too much about services, unless you drive the car like it should be driven. Then brakes will cost you a bit. Most other normal service parts will be covered. Why not just take the full maintenance plan. Then there is no need to worry in your 5 years of ownership. Just drop it off and pick it up later. No hassles.

Rain sensors are built into the rear view mirror, and no ways wiper blades cost R5k.

Mmmmm dura blades are R99. The Bosch ones are under R250 and you paid R5k for what? :D

Gtis are not expensive to maintain. 30 000km service will cost between R2500 and R3500. Different dealers have different labour costs.
You pay for the oil and labour without the service/maintenance plan.

They don't call them stealerships for nothing. I wonder if iFoggy will ever show his face in public again.

Yho.. if you are going to lie at least make it believable...

Vw wiper blades are insanely extensive. I seem to remember around 1300 each.

Wipers were expensive in my mind but like R480 for the pair.

I paid about R1800 for my 120 000km major service itself at a non-dealership. R3500 or so for the front suspension components I had to replace which had a leak on the right.

Brakes should in reality cost you all of R1200 in OEM parts and labour should be free under the service plan.

I see OEM G6 wipers listed at $67 for the right and a bit less for the left, so they are quite pricey.

Still nowhere near 5k and as was pointed out the rain sensor is behind the rear view mirror.

Will get a quote on a maintenance plan and then decide what to do

5k for wipers?? are they made of gold??

I think he meant the 60k service and brake pads and wipers cost R5k total..

iFroggy: Get the G7 GTi - It will have a much better resale value and you will hate yourself for downgrading. I don't see the GTi as and extra expense - you will get your money back.

With regards to extra's - The only extra i'm taking is the PDC's (was deciding between that or the rear camera)

No Sunroof or Xenons - Budget is already stretched more than I would of liked.

Yeah, I don't really remember paying much for my services... Just had the 60000km service and they replaced wiper blades. Total was less than R600. They only replaced the front ones though because they didn't have stock of the rear one... The rear one is fine however and don't really need replacement.

Further, I've had no issues with the G6 GTI. Granted, I haven't done as much distance on it as with my previous car (moved to the city last year), but still, no issues. Busy switching to G7 GTI (or Volvo V40 if VW screwed up my order).

Don't waste time with pdc, xenons and roof help resale, both or at least xenons is a must.

Yeah, I always feel sorry for people who buy Audi's and BMW's with halogen headlamps. Nobody wants them second hand. They want the "LEDs" or the "Halo's".

A sunroof in my opinion is the dumbest thing in existence on a South African car. The buyer thought "I know, let me cut a hole in my roof, destroy the structural integrity and fry my head for the next 5 years" That said, I know they are very popular and most people will buy a car with a sunroof before one without. It just makes no sense in a sun rich, hot country.
