From a previous thread - I bought myself a 2018 Duster Diesel , 57000 on the clock. It's the 2x4 EDC Prestige.
Wesbank phoned to offer me a 4 year service plan on the car, it's a about R16000 and will be included in my finance.

I had a maintenance plan on my previous car, but this will be my first service plan and I know a lot less is covered. Is it worth it? AFAIK only the service items and labour is covered, no wear and tear items. It basically works out to R4000 per year, which seems a bit much, but then again everything is becoming expensive. For what it's worth, I'm only doing about 5000km per year.

Take that 16k and put it in an emregency fund and use for services when required, or when non service related items need to replaced.

I took it out on my car as you get service the car at dealer and I know my services will surpass the cost of the plan.

But think can get it done cheaper elsewhere on the renault.

That's one of the positive things, Renault will service the car. I do have a reliable mechanic and he does brilliant work, but it's not really that much cheaper than going through the dealership.

R4K for a service on a Duster.... Insane. And that after 5000Km. So if you only take it at 10000 = 8K for a service.
Waste of money.

Nope not worth it, normal services will cost you less than R2k and the major service will be between R6-R9k. Please don’t finance a service plan. Wesbank is just in it for a commission.

Yeah, ok, thanks everyone. Sort of confirms my suspicions. I might as well throw the cash in an interest bearing account.

Best way to calculate this is get the price of the next 4 services from Renault and your own mech and compare. I know the cam belt service on the duster which is quite pricy.

Also, congrats on the duster. An absolute gem of motor and the best value in that price range.

NO they are not worth it. If you going to hit a cambelt timing belt change in that period, maybe. But many of these plans don't include major service/cambelt anyway

Yeah, I'm quite happy with the purchase so far, It's a substantial upgrade from my Stepway. Gave someone a lift from JHB to PTA and back recently, it was about a 70/30 highway/city split, and still managed to do 5.1l/100km.
