Service Robbery

I could have declined but then would need to find time to book in somewhere else. Dont have that time at moment
So yeh kinda my fault as well

The fault still lies with the dealership if they're doing unnecessary work... especially on things like brakes. They are betting on the fact that you will just agree because its a safety item, and you don't really want to drive a car with brakes that "need" replacing.

Did they show you the old brakepads?

The stealership knows what they are doing, heard 3 stories like this in the past 2 months from colleagues.Basterds.

I hear it often...

Have even stopped a friend or two from agreeing to it on the phone with the stealership.

I wonder if its across the board are just specific dealerships. I have a feeling its specific. This same dealership also tried to charge me R900 for windscreen wipers.

So just to confirm I can take my vehicle to a private mechanic with no problems to my service plan and warranty?
(Obviously for future ref)

Of course you can...

You can even walk into the dealerships parts division and buy the brakepads that they will use, usually for cheaper than they will charge you if you let them do the work (go figure), and give them to the private guy to do the work.

They did let me know before hand but I had to allow them to do it.
I dont have the luxury not to have my car for another day
Also dont I lose the warranty and void the service plan if brakes are changed by a private mechanic?

They could have not changed it.

You could then have gone to a supaquick type place early on a Saturday morning and an hour later have left with a thicker wallet.

I have a 2010 fiesta.

Recently replaced the front brake pads - parts were R475 from Midas and I paid R175 for fitment.

LOL, At my 60K service they quoted me R9600 to do front brakes. Got pads from Starbrake for R850, did it myself, 20 min job. Discs were still fine. I can get heat treated grooved discs for R3200, so stealerships are smoking strong stuff. Discounted price on OEM pads is R2980 ex vat.

Fiesta ST.

WTH? Discs and Skim if needed normally sets me back about R1200-R1500 depending. Obviously non dealership and don't let someone tell you nonsense about warranty etc. Brakes are NOT warranty parts or covered by service plans.

Sigh, I might need to replace my pads soon. Is that what they are going to charge?
Which brakes did you get? Doesnt the ST use a different material from the normal Fiesta
