So I have to take my Volvo S40 2.0D for a 140k service. Just a normal "Oil Change" service. Volvo is quoting me R4700... uhm... I don't think so.

Where in Pretoria East is a good (and affordable) place to get this, very basic, service done? I was checking out Car Service City, but Hellopeter is full of complaints. Any experiences with them? Yay or Nay.

Did this once, but couldn't get the car to start again. After a day's struggling, it eventually came around. I don't have that kind of patience. hahaha.

I know the parts are about R1200. But of course volvo use Volvo branded parts which has a 4.6 Billion % markup because they come in Volvo boxes.

try bosch service
:)

You have good experiences with them?

My mom didn't have a a good experience at all when she went to them in 2009 with a 2000 model Hyundai Sonata.

The car would not stay running for longer than 10 minutes, then eventually stopped starting at all.

So she took the car there in hoping they could fix it, they had the car for 2 months, left it parked outside with the driver's window open during the rainy season.

All electronics on the driver's door stopped working because of the water, subsequently preventing all other electric windows from opening; they managed to break off the indicator stalk and eventually said they couldn't fix the original problem.

We took it to an independent backyard mechanic, he fixed it in 3 days. Immediately diagnosed it as a crank angle sensor.

This was the Bosch Car Service in Silverton, the manager there was also rude and unhelpful.

EDIT: I have heard good things about a mechanic in Pretoria North, I have a friend that takes their Volvo S40 there whenever they need anything. PM me if you'd like the number :)

Where in PTA are you? If not too far, best service place in Centurion I have found is Carnetics. Someone on the forum referred me to them and I'm glad they did.
