Services at Telkom will be shut down: CWU

There must be a mistake in the date, Telkom's services shut down years ago, shortly after they began.

think they are already striking,
got an automated reply from one of their mailing servers now, after sending a mail there 2 weeks ago

True that, probably most clueless people. Most people get a cramp in the a$$ when they have to deal with telkom.

Notice of a strike would be served just after August 25, if demands were not met.

I thought hostage takes issued demands?

Mass action by 23,000 workers was planned for the first week of September, CWU deputy president Clyde Mervin said.

This is a lie. As per Telkom year end results http://telkom.investoreports.com/telkom_ar_2011/human-capital/ they had 22 824 employees. Of these 20 395 could belong to a union (non-management), split up as follows:

1. CWU - 8,228 (40.34%)
2. S.A.C.U. - 4,078 (20.00%)
3. Solidarity - 3,177 (15.58%)
4. No Affiliation - 59 (0.29%)
5. No Union - 4,853 (23.80%)

So yes, CWU has the most members. Pity they don't do the most work!!! The most efficient lot are probably in category 5 above...

So I heard it's now legal in South Africa for people to disable the ability of a business to operate in order to gain money from them without having to do anything but 'protest' or 'go on strike'.

I should totally 'go on strike' or 'protest' at FNB and claim that I'll shut down their services unless they give me x amount of money per month for doing nothing. If Telkom employees are able to do it, then I should be able to do it too!
