Set-top box registrations kick off

This is indeed a new exciting era for me. I hope to fall off the tv license subscriber list.

So if you don't have a set-top box, must you still pay your tv license?

My grandmother uses DSTV Easyview @ R29 p/m
to get her daily dose of 7de laan, but she also pays her tv license.

Anybody around here planning to get a set-top box?

Where do you get the idea that this means no one has to pay the tv licence fee?

Tv licence still payable . Yes I am keen to get one, from a technical interest and because I want to get out of dstv's clutches completely. BUT I want the satellite version of the STB. We do not have terr. coverage
where I stay ....

Imagine

One day there will be legislation whereby PAY TV need to capture everyone's TV license link it to your pay tv account and if you don't have a valid TV license they cut off your subscription/not paid.

That was one of the arguments that held up the whole process ----- the idea was to use the CA system to deny access to TV if your TV licence was not paid up .....

Tried to buy a STB/decoder/TV lately without a valid Tv licence?

said government’s view is that television is a very good educational tool, which broadens knowledge of different cultures, promotes tolerance and understanding of international issues.

You mean like Malema's anti-white speeches

So this means analogue switches off you cant pick up a signal you would need a setup box for digital. So I heard these digital boxes have encryption to there signals so does this mean a person who wants to cancel their TV license can easily phone and cancel since there will be encryption.

That is my hope. Without the Box you cant get tv which is fine with me. I don't want to pay any tv licence.

You have zero chance of that happening .... If anything, the implementation of control via the CA system on the STB (that is if that ever happens) will enforce the payment of TV licences.

Minister Muthambi told the locals that they will have a new experience of the existing free-to-air television broadcasting services in that they will enjoy more channels and content, better sound and picture quality and enhanced broadcasting applications such as electronic programme guides.
Yeah right....not at those bitrates that they are using at the moment.
