Hi

I desperately need some help! Just bought a DSTV decoder, activated my account, did everything I was supposed to do, and still it doesn't work.

I live in a complex with a shared dish, and have found out from the Body Corporate that there are no specific settings for the network and that it should work. But it doesn't; it says it can't scan any channels or anything.

I have plugged in the DSTV cable into LBN in like told by Multichoice, but still nothing. There was a splitter connected to the DSTV cable, is this maybe it?

I really want to sort this out myself and not pay R600 for someone to do 2 minutes worth of work!

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks!

Check the obvious 1st,

Sounds like you not picking up the LNB.

Is the cable from the dish/LNB to the decoder working 100%

I would check the cable, follow it as far as you can to check if it hsn't been cut off somewhere. If you have a wall socket with a DSTV connector, check the cable between the socket and your decoder.

That's the problem - the cable isnt coming out of the wall, it's coming out of the ceiling...

check you stats on the info page, that will tell you if you're connected to the dish or not

Is the decoder working properly? It may help to plug it into a different dish maybe at a friend's place where there's a standalone installation.

you should be able to check if the decoder is picking up the dish through the signal strength and quality meters on the menu screen or just press the 'help' button on the remote.... or like the others say, is the decoder working in the first place?

Thanks everyone, but sadly nothing is working still...

It's a brand new decoder (bought yesterday), but I'll keep trying. By the sounds of it, it should be an easy installation, so maybe i'm just being a girl and not getting something right :)

are you sure that "splitter" wasn't a polarity switcher or a signal amp?

Are you SURE you dont need an UP Converter?
When I was using the estate sat dish where I live, we needed to have UP Converters which linked the cable from the estate dish to your decoder.

If you do need one, please PM me as I am selling mine since I put in my own sat dish now and no longer need it.

Try and get the guy who originally installed the system or someone that knows these setups.

PM me if you want me to refer you to someone.

Communal dishes are b!+ches. They wanted to charge us R60p/m to use the dish. We were like, fsck that!, so we just got our own standalone dish. Noone complained.
