Which is better Seychelles or Reunion? Cost of holidaying, variety of activities, etc.

I'm from Reunion, and have been to Seychelles although many years ago.

There are way more activities / adventures in Reunion than in the Seychelles, especially if you like mountain activities: hiking, camping, canyonning, etc.. if you're looking at beach only, then probably better to go to Seychelles.

The cost is probably similar from one to the other

Thanks!

Are you familiar with Air Austral?

I've been to reunion. I loved it, but I am not the type to enjoy more than 1-3 days of lying on a beach with cocktails. Reunion has a lot more to do and explore and it easily drivable. e.g hire a car and drive around the island spending a few nights in each main area.

This we love hiking and it came HIGHLY recommended as almost a hidden gem for hiking.

Also this

Planning to go to Reunion soon.

The best comparison I've heard from people that have been there is that Reunion is a cross between Seychelles, Mauritius, Hawaii and France. Also heard that Reunion isn't as "touristy" (ie. more relaxed and not too focussed on the tourists as other islands in the region).

Again the SV Delos guys spent some time there and it looked boss!

I haven't been on holiday or business to Reunion, but sometimes the Air Mauritius and Air Austral flight i've been on (just stopover for me in Reunion) flew near the volcano and the pilot tells you which window to see it out of. quite a sight...

France pours a ton of money in there.
They were busy building this highway in the ocean when i was over there, original highway at the base of the cliffs dropping too much rocks i guess.

Flew with Air Austral via Reunion to Mauritius in 2017 - friendly service, good food. Reunion Airport itself was not so nice - the international departure hall was too crowded, wifi not working, no ATM's, long queues to buy something. Unfriendly staff. Hopefully all or most of these aspects have improved over the last 5 years.

As for the island itself, as mentioned above I was only at the airport for connecting flights, but my sister-in-law and family spent three days there once, enjoyed it but did mention it was expensive.

Seychelles, without a doubt based on cost and activities, I also think it depends on how long you stay there, for a long term stay I say the Seychelles over Reunion or the Maldives for example.

Also, did you like Mauritius? If you did then the Seychelles will be the best bet for you.
